Living in Jersey City
Jersey City is home to a number of distinct landmarks, museums, libraries, and more! The Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theatre – the only Loew’s Theatre outside New York City – offers residents continual showings of classic Hollywood films, and hosts events and theater performances throughout the year. The city’s Free Public Library has five different branches throughout the area, all of which offer numerous exhibitions and collections.
The city boasts great nightlife, with lots of fine dining options, as well as fast food restaurants, and fabulous views of NYC – but much less crowded.
Jersey City public transportation, however, leaves a lot to be desired. The city is currently experiencing growing pains and work still has to be done to accommodate commuters.

The Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island, a national park, is very close by, while those interested in science can take advantage of the Liberty Science Center. Art historians can visit the Katyn Memorial, designed by Andrzej Pitynski, the famous Polish-American artist.
During the summer, you can stop by the annual Hudson County Shakespeare Festival and attend a free performance of a Shakespeare play every month. Every fall, the city hosts the Golden Door International Film Festival of Jersey City, one of the top rated film festivals in the world.
The city is home to many Filipino citizens, and in the “Little Manila” section of the city you will find Phil-Am Food, and even the largest grocery store owned by Filipinos in the United States!

Tips for Renting in Jersey City
There are lots of new luxury condos being built in Jersey City. The city is undergoing a renaissance of sorts with major construction and renovation works taking place throughout the city. Though internally the public transportation is not very well organized, you have several ways to access Manhattan using public transport including bus, train and ferry.
Tenants have a lot of rights under New Jersey and Jersey City laws. There are limits under N.J. law regarding how much you can be charged for a security deposit. Landlords cannot charge more than 1 ½ months for the first year, and no more than 10% of the first year's deposit for succeeding year leases. The landlord has 30 days to return the deposit after the tenant moves out. Landlords must also give you at least 24 hours’ notice before entering the rental unit for an inspection or repair.
New Jersey also has special tenant protection laws in place for victims of domestic violence.
