Good apartment near RPI
For being a furnished apartment right next to RPI, the price is good! Usually the parking is full though, so having a car here is difficult.
Outweighing the Pros vs Cons
There are a lot of positives about living at the 11th Parallel, but like any place, there are some downsides. It's just about weighing them out for you! In our unit specifically, we experienced plumbing issues for over 2 years. It took a lot of going back and forth and advocating for ourselves to finally have a long-term fix, something that should've happened from the beginning. Maintenance is stretched far too thin which sometimes causes long wait times for a resolution. Property managers are inconsistent with their guidance and responses as well. Eventually, things will get done but it varies how long eventually can be, which is not okay for certain issues. Parking is also a complete mess. They are aware of how many cars are coming in, which means they also know there are not nearly enough spots. Literally every "No parking" spot is used, because there simply isn't enough space. The laundry room is okay, but I do feel like the washers are weak, which is a shame considering we have to pay to utilize them. With that being said, the apartments are very well spaced out and furnished, all amenities are included (minus electric), the neighborhood isn't too noisy, and it's extremely close to RPI and about 15 minutes out from UA. Maintenance is SPEEDY with snow removal, and salting which is really important for Albany/Troy Winters. Property managers are also flexible and understanding when needed. Although it's probably not a huge deal, I really like that you know your neighbors are all students at one of the local colleges. As two females living alone for the first time, it helps us feel more comfortable. Despite the issues above, I've been here for 2.5 years now, because I know that in today's economy, you will not be able to find these benefits/positives for this price point. You definitely get what you pay for in some ways, but overall, I think this is a solid apartment complex, especially if like me, it was your first time moving into your own place.
