Going digital has never been more important. With cities closing downit’s now a necessity to be able to remotely execute tasks that would have otherwise required going out

Fortunatelybecause we live in a high-speed, technology-driven time, many such apps and platforms have already been developed to provide people with comfort and conveniencesAs such, many aspects of the rental life have gone digital, as well — from paying rent and bills, to ordering food and groceries. And, while the process may differ from one case to anotheroptions exist nonetheless.

Paying Your Rent

This monthly, set cost is one of the most important financial aspects of being a renter. Many properties offer online portals — platforms where you can log in to make payments, set up automatic withdrawals and submit maintenance requests, among other things. Especially now, these options are very useful to reduce contact with others

If you don’t have access to an online platform, talk to your landlord or property manager about potential alternatives. For example, perhaps you can pay your rent via a bank transfer, which moves the payment from your account directly to theirs. Many banking apps offer fast, convenient transfers.

Online Bill Payments

Your utility bills are another monthly expense, and some properties give you the option to pay these bills online, as well. Howeverif yours doesn’t, there are platforms that act as a thirdparty between you and your providers. This allows you to keep all of your bills in one place and have a clear overview of your finances and budget.

For instance, Prism Money connects you to your service providers and syncs to your calendar to remind you about upcoming payments. Use it to manage your income, monthly expenses and account balances, and process payments directly from the app. Prism Money is free to download and use.

Along the same lines, MyCheckFree by Fiserv is another service you can use to pay billsBut, before you sign up, check to see if your provider is on their list of partners; if they are, you can use this service to complete your payments online. This service is also free because the provider covers any associated fees.

apps for social distancing

Grocery Delivery

Platforms and apps focused on delivering food and products have become widespread in recent years, and are increasingly in need during the pandemicAs we are advised to stay home and limit the times we go out, such services are especially useful for those living in apartments, who don’t have gardens or the opportunity to grow their own produce.

Depending on where you live, some local producers and farmers will adapt to these new conditions and start offering delivery, as well, so check their social media pages or websites to see if theyve implemented this option. Supporting local businesses is especially important during this time.

However, even if you don’t have local options, you may be able to use other platforms that deliver products from your chosen stores.

For example, Instacart is an app that allows you to select products, groceries and fresh produce to be delivered to your home on the same day. Furthermore, tmaintain social distancing, they also introduced a “leave at my door” option

Another option is Boxed, a delivery service for bulk items — from food to pet supplies and office necessities. Through the app, you can schedule an order to be delivered at a specific time and day and, as usual when you buy in bulk, there are discounts and savings opportunities so you can choose the best deal. However, make sure you only buy what you need and don’t overstock to ensure that limited resources are available to all who need them

Similarly, The Fresh Market started out as a marketplace for fresh produce and curated meats and cheeses, and now offers delivery options, as well. Depending on where you are, you can find options for a variety of products — from produce, frozen goods and meats, to pantry essentials and household necessities. On their website, they also offer recipes for inspiration.

While social distancing, remember to maintain balance in your life. Exercise whenever you can, cook and eat healthy meals, keep your house clean, and try to meditate and take care of your mind, as well. We are fortunate to live in the age of internet, when information and entertainment are at our fingertips, so this period of social distancing could actually be a period of renewal for all of us. Stay safe and take care!
