Make Your Way to Miami’s Suburbs for Some Hot Rentals

What makes Miami an amazing place to call home? Take your pick: from the incredible diversity of cultures to one of the best Art Deco nightclub districts in the world and so much more, it’s easy to see why young professionals, retirees, and visitors flock to the 305. And as the “gateway to Latin America” an impressive number of big-name corporations base their Latin American operations in and around Miami — Cisco, Hilton, and Microsoft, to name a few.

Apartments for rent in Miami, like any other major city, run the gamut from bargain rentals to penthouse luxury; but, if you’d rather leave the city behind at the end of a long workday, these four beautiful suburbs will keep you roughly within a half-hour commute of downtown while offering all of the benefits of living in the ‘burbs.

Doral

Commute time to downtown Miami: 22 minutes (17.2 mi)
Best find: Signature at Doral, from $1,500 for a 1-bed, 1-bath unit with 799 sq.ft. to $2,440 for a 3-bed, 2-bath unit with 1,331 sq.ft. (check availability)
Perks: resort-style community; soaker tub; full-size washer/dryer in every unit; easy access to MIA and FL Turnpike

Signature at Doral 11481 NW 41 St Doral FL

Does your idea of the perfect weekend include a golf cart and 18 holes? Put Doral at the top of your list! From The Blue Monster to The Golden Palm (all part of a resort owned by a certain 2016 Presidential candidate), your ideal Sunday awaits. Forbes Magazine also ranked Doral second on its list of top 25 towns for living well in the U.S., and the apartments of Signature at Doral are just one of the many rental communities that keep you close to work in the city and conveniently located near the airport.

Miami Lakes

Commute time to downtown Miami: 23 minutes (18.4 mi)
Best find: New Barn Apartments, from $1,540 for a 2-bed, 2-bath unit with 1,056 sq.ft.; 1-bedroom units also available (check availability)
Perks: private terraces/balconies; ceramic tile/laminate wood flooring; split floor plans; walk-in closets

New Barn 6730 Bull Run Road Miami Lakes, FL

Miami Lakes is one of the “youngest” communities in the greater Miami-Dade metro area, incorporated less than two decades ago in 2000 and currently home to just over 30,000 people. This master-planned neighborhood boasts ample green space, including parks within walking distance of virtually every residence. Miami Lakes has one of the lowest crime rates in the region — this may be why it was named as one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People by America’s Promise, as well as receiving the designation as a “Playful City USA”.

Miami Gardens

Commute time to downtown Miami: 18 minutes (14.5 mi)
Best find: Vista Palms, from $1,225 for a 3-bed, 2-bath unit with 955 sq.ft., 1- and 2-bedroom units also available (check availability)
Perks: ample parking; budget-friendly monthly rent; private balcony/patio; short commute to downtown

Vista Palms 361 NE 191st St Miami Gardens, FL

Miami Gardens—Miami Lakes’ neighbor to the northeast—may be your best bet for a great rental on a shoestring. Not many other Miami-area suburbs can offer a three-bedroom apartment for under $1,300, but Vista Palms is just one of several properties that do just that. And, before you start wondering if such a terrific price means a not-so-great community, check out the Jazz in the Gardens music festival or the fitness classes offered at the Ferguson Recreational Complex. You’ll see that budget-friendly Miami Gardens has plenty to offer.

Cutler Bay

Commute time to downtown Miami: 33 minutes (27.7 mi)
Best find: 8914 SW 222nd Terrace, $1,825 for a 3-bedroom, 2.5 bath single-family townhome with 1,716 sq.ft. (check availability)
Perks: garage; fenced-in patio; stainless steel appliances; ceramic tile and wood flooring

8914 SW 222nd Terrace, Cutler Bay FL

If you’re really looking to get away from the city, consider renting a townhome or single-family home in a suburb with a slightly longer commute to Miami. In Cutler Bay, for example, you can rent a townhome with three bedrooms and a garage for less than many 1-bedroom apartments rent in Miami‘s downtown. And, you can take advantage of the benefits you’d expect from suburban life, like the Family Aquatic Center at West Perrine Park or more than a dozen parks and other green spaces available for a good run or quiet enjoyment of natural beauty.
