Why Renters Love It Here
FACTS
I have lived here for over 2 years now. The 1st year was great however the building has been in steady decline. From elevators constantly breaking, lack of communication from management to resident in all aspects, lack of hot water FOR WEEKS, DISGUSTING TRASH ROOM THATS RARELY CLEANED. Yeah the living situation here is out of control.
Lots of Room for Improvement
I've lived here for about 7 months in a studio apartment. I think it's a good value even if I've been disappointed so far with my experience. No major issues with my unit, except a sink issue that was quickly fixed by the amazing maintenance staff here. I've also had great interactions with the various front desk staff, all of whom have been friendly and helpful. The building itself has one major flaw. In-unit alarm systems blare about once every 2 weeks (sometimes multiple times a day) with an automated message telling you to either evacuate or await further instructions. After a few minutes these alarms stop with no follow up, no clear threat, and no additional details. It is a laughable quirk of this building that has yet to be addressed (like many things) by management. Management is my primary concern with the building, as requests can take months to process. My roommate did not receive her own key until she lived here for five (5) months, with weekly follow-up emails often ignored or missed by management. Additionally, we have yet to receive a response on whether we can add a parking spot here, opting to park on the street in the meantime for MUCH less money. Attempts to meet in-person have not worked, as management is rarely in their office. Beyond my personal inquiries, I rarely get any messaging from the building on policies, updates or events. This lack of communication, leadership, and hospitality has been the most disappointing part of my experience here so far. I'm confident that these problems can be solved, assuming management takes any amount of resident feedback into account. I would recommend this building to those looking for good value in an apartment, but these issues remaining unresolved in the near future would be the primary reason I'd move somewhere else.
Once was good...
2020: I first moved in right at the pandemic in 2020, when they were still rehabbing the building and it was a great experience. 2024: Since then, I've only kept the apartment as a place close to the city since I moved, but I go regularly throughout the month. Things are NOT what they used to be, some major issues below that have been consistently bad for the last 2 years: 1) Lack of responsiveness: As many other reviews indicate, they have changed management hands so much, that literally NO ONE answers emails or phone calls, so unless you randomly catch a front office person in the middle of the work day (if there are any), good luck getting any response to issues. I didn't reach out much, but had multiple billing issues from the app, had issues with my parking space being blocked, have asked for copies of my lease/moving out process with literally NO response. I imagine I'll have to harass and fight to even get a chance of getting my deposit back. 2) Amenities: Everything is clearly being run down, things are all over the place, and there are literally leaks from the ceiling walking through the basement area. Before the front desk would walk around and do some minor clean-up, make sure things were orderly. Not the case at all anymore, so the amenities are just not worth it if they're not being maintained. 3) Parking: They recently doubled the parking charges and made it worse by having assigned spaces that don't fit normal cars. Every time I park in the garage, I have literally 3 inches to open my door, no matter how I park. It's not my parking neighbor's fault, management just made the spaces too small to sell more, simple as that. 4) Basics: Water is shut off multiple times a month, for large swaths of the day. I would think that would be against some kind of building code for the amount of residents there are...There's always weed smell, and the elevators (3) usually only have 1 actually working. Save your time, and frustration. Plenty of other places!
Rate & Review
I have been living at the Dane for almost 5 years and have seen this building go through rapid changes. When I first signed on, the building was presented to us so that it would draw in professional cliente to the area. It was also presented as a safe living space that had 24/7 security monitoring of the building as well as staff on the premises at all times for the occupants who may need further assistance. The building used to have a more responsive maintenance and management team that would communicate to the residents in a quick and friendly manner. Today, this is no longer the circumstance of the apartment building. Management is hardly ever present within the building nor; do they try to communicate with the residents in a timely/appropriate manner. When we are notified about issues within the building, residents receive a string of "email blasts" in the late evening hours stating that they are aware of what the issues in the building and are working on it by stating a repeatted email response from previous emails. Management makes it incredibly challenging to communicate with them in the most basic manner. They also are lackluster on following through on these issues whether it pertains to residents not keeping the shared areas clean and accessible (trash rooms have been a nightmare), lack of heated water throughout the building since December of 2023, and fellow residents continuously violating their contract with smoking on property, residents parking in areas that are not designated spots, damaging building property as well. I really do hope that things improve within the building, however with the building running in the manner it is today, I am quite doubtful.
Comfortable & Peaceful Living
I have been at my apt for 2 and a half years. I have had no major issues to report. The staff have had several changes since moving in but everyone that have come and gone were/is always very friendly and welcoming. Maintenance is great as well. They are very attentive and quick to respond. I do feel as though they can be more aware of issues that need fixing on a daily basis then major occurrences. The property manager is amazing. She's so nice, understanding and overall tries her hardest to help you if there are any issues with paying your rent. It's very quiet, no drama in the hallways or the lobby and it's always clean for it to be a building with animals. Overall, I personally have no complaints abt my apt building. Yes nothing is perfect, but staff and the owners really try and make you feel like you are living in luxury. I 100% recommend my apt to rent.
