5 stars for the employees. They are always friendly and helpful. Chris in particular is very knowledgeable. Also they keep the place clean it's an older building so there are certain things that are always going to look old. As for everything else I was a little frustrated when the elevator broke and it stayed broken for such a long time . However, the guys have figured out a way to make the back entrance work. in fact now I think the back entrance is a lot easier than dealing with the elevator. Also I think the price is better at this place than some of the other storage facilities in the same area. ( It was when I moved in a couple years ago I haven't checked around in a while.) Personally I wish they had longer hours Bjt my storage roommate thinks their hours are fine. ... Read more

Staff is nice however the hours of operation are terrible this place needs to open earlier. There is also a likely possibility your things will get water damage when it rains. Their online payment system doesn’t let you pay for your upcoming month. You’ll have to submit a payment after the first of the month. ... Read more

I've been using Signal Hill Self Storage for 7 months now and it has been decent for what I need and want. My partner had already been renting a unit for a year or two, so I got to see the service, quality, etc before renting one myself. Here are some of my thoughts so far: Pros - Service is great. Everyone I've spoken to that the front desk has always been friendly and helpful. One guy (didn't catch his name) helped us move our couch through the back parking lot when we realized the couch wouldn't fit in the elevator. Also, Marina, who set me up in the beginning was amazing! I don't think she's there any more but she was great. - My unit is dry and as clean as could be for a storage unit - I do feel like the building is secure, as you need a code to get in to the storage area and all other entrances are locked. - You can get discounts on your rent if you prepay upfront. I haven't taken advantage of it as of now, but would like to, as you get a month or even two months' rent off. Cons - There used to be a back entrance which made it easier when moving in heavy things (no need to use the elevator). They had to close off those entrances, however, due to complaints from nearby residents about parking. I don't blame them, but it definitely didn't make things easier. - During the rainy months, I have seen leaking in the hallways. Fortunately, I haven't experienced any in my unit as of now, but I hope it gets fixed. Or maybe it's already fixed and I just wait for the rainy months this year. I think that's it! Thanks Signal Hill Self Storage for the service! ... Read more

I definitely do not recommend this place. The staff is friendly but there is a reason why it’s the most affordable place around. The place has very questionable tenants, is filled w roaches and rodents, and it is highly likely that your possessions will suffer water damage when it rains. For me, it’s well worth the money to pay a few more dollars for a cleaner more reputable facility. Rent at your own risk. Good luck ?? ... Read more

I booked a truck for 7am. Turned up, was told to collect my keys from box 3 and to put a combination into a lock. As you can see box 3 has no lock on it, and likely hasn't for a long time. I had to call U-Haul and book my truck from another store. However, this meant a wait of 2h, which messed up all my moving plans. Last time I use U-Haul. Talk about trash service. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Signal Hill Self Storage - 2901 East Pacific Coast Hwy include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, Elevators, First Floor Access, Multi-Level Storage, Online Payment and RV Storage. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 12 to 240 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Signal Hill Self Storage - 2901 East Pacific Coast Hwy start from $50 and can go up to $390 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
