The rent was raised to my storage unit and it was taking effect March 1. The morning of, the day before March 1, I rushed over to change my unit. Ana went through the available options and even showed me a few different units that would best accommodate me. I was able to move all my belongings to the new unit and avoid the raised rent. ... I have been here for about two years. I access the unit around once a month. I am now so unhappy with the customer service from Ana that I am leaving. I am spending my Saturday finding a new unit at another facility because I am tired of Ana's attitude and horrible customer service. Sometimes people give bad customer service because they haven't been trained on what to do or what to say. But sometimes bad customer service is because the employee doesn't have the personality to be in customer service and should not be in a position that is customer facing. People rarely need customer service at a storage unit. But when it is needed, it is really needed. Usually it is a serious situation and/or you are out of town or there is some kind of emergency. That is when you need the storage unit company truly needs to come through. I cannot risk continuing to do business with a company that employs Ana. She Every experience I have had with her has been horrible. Today I arrived at the Public Storage property by Miramar because I had an unexpected need arise. When I got the the property, Ana was standing in front of the gate while the gate was closing. Someone else was walking in the gate. Ana approached by vehicle and told me they were closed and I could not access. I looked down at the time and it was 4:59PM according to my phone. I told her I thought they closed at 6pm (which they do most days.) She said on Saturdays they close at 5pm. In fairness, I was not aware and should have been. I always leave plenty of time. However, the reality, had Ana not been standing in the way, I would have technically been able to get in before 5pm. She told me she let the guy before me in, but made him park his car outside the gate. She told me that she told him that he could run in on foot to grab something, but she would not allow him to drive. I politely asked if she could please allow me to do the same because there was just one, small item I needed quickly. She refused. I'd had it. I told her how unhappy I was with the customer service. The first time I accessed my unit, I pulled the string to turn the light on and it broke. When I brought that to Ana's attention, she shrugged and said it was my responsibility to fix their light. So in the two years I was there, I did not have a light and made sure to leave flashlights in the unit. I once told Ana that some things were getting wet in the back of my unit and she explained that it was to be expected since it was a particularly rainy month. So in the two years I have been there, I just have to keep things away from the back of my unit so they do not get wet. After explaining how I was unhappy with the customer service and reminding her of why, she told me I was a liar because I had never told her there was moisture getting into my unit. She told me she didn't care if I escalated it, but she would not let me in. It was now 5:01. I called Public Storage's customer service line to complain. They routed me back to Ana in her office. I did not realize it was Ana until after I started pleading my case and she hung up on me. Don't do business with them as long as she is there. I am moving out this week. And do not believe all these good reviews. After Ana helps you open your unit, she asks for a good review even though all she did was the bare minimum. Yes, she shows you how to open the unit, but after that, if you need anything at all her attitude is that it is just too much trouble. This kind of service is fine at a fast food place, but a storage unit for your property? Forget it. Don't risk it. There are so many other options. ... Read more

Needed to get storage before my wife and I move. This place is very clean. Anna was helpful. I started my rental online. Anna called shortly afterward to see if I had any question. Offered to help me finish. Didn't need the assistance but she was helpful. Went down there just as they were about to close and was given a bit of time to drop off some things. She made it quick and easy. Thank you ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Public Storage - 9550 Kearny Mesa Road include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Credit Cards Accepted, Elevators, First Floor Access, Multi-Level Storage, Online Payment and RV Storage. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 300 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Public Storage - 9550 Kearny Mesa Road start from $53 and can go up to $656 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
