Nice space, but as many others has mentioned they suddenly raise the rent and not just a little, my parking space went up from $117 to $160 from one month to the next having me scramble to find a more affordable space. The whole idea that you don’t need a contract, it is month to month these storage facilities are using to their advantage to be able to raise the rent when the supply is low and force people out to make space for others willing to pay a higher price. So much greed everywhere. ... Read more

This facility is a mess. One security gate has been broken for 4 months, there's strange chemical odors on the 3rd floor like someone is cooking drugs in the facility, and after 2-3 months of renting a unit they will raise your rent by 50%. I do not recommend this facility unless they address these issues, but after raising them to management they seem to continue to go unaddressed. EDIT: I've already contacted the business twice regarding these issues with no effect. Do not let the response below mislead you to think they care about you as a customer or their facility. ... This business is a classic bait and switch self-storage unit. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM. 64% rent increase after 3-months of signing a lease. I specifically asked the rental manager of the rent increase practice and she assured me it would be at most 20-25% but got an automated email of the 64% rent increase after only 3-months. Shady business with employees that lie and take zero responsibility. Called the 1-800 number and they wouldn't take any ownership of the increase just saying they aren't sure why it would raise that much. Huge waste of time to use them. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere more trustworthy. ... Read more

the good- the facility is clean and well maintained. the bad- they raise your rates 3 months after you move in. How is that helpful? Get your stuff moved in and time to pay more? the onsite staff are uncool and lurk around your unit near closing time asking if they can help you? they make you buy a lock that only fits in a certain type of lock set, no refunds. (you cant use your own) -Super creepy - there is a robot camera that follows customers around in the parking lot. all the time... ... Read more

This storage facility ROCKS! It is clean. It is spacious. It is managed by knowledgeable, polite, helpful staff. I cannot overestimate how much I hated my previous dusty, run-down, semi-staffed storage facility (Public Storage on Jacuzzi Street, in case you want to know where not to go). Seems silly to hire movers to transfer stuff from one local storage facility to another, but it was worth every penny. ... Read more

I recently rented a unit at SecureSpace Self Storage Richmond and had an average experience. Billy did an excellent job showing me the unit, addressing my needs, and making me feel welcome. Her professionalism and friendly demeanor really stood out. The location is convenient, and moving my belongings in was easy and hassle-free. However, there are several drawbacks. The gate access is limited to office hours, which can be inconvenient for people with busy schedules. Additionally, one staff member, who didn’t introduce himself, directed me to park my vehicle next to the fence in a rather abrupt manner. I also had to buy a specialized lock for their units, even though I already had a perfectly good lock from a previous storage unit, which didn’t work on theirs. On top of that, they keep your money even if you only stay for a few days, which feels unfair and not very customer-friendly. I’ve rented storage units before and had better overall experiences, so I expected more. While Billy’s service was excellent, the limited access hours, lack of professionalism from another staff member, the non-refundable policy, and the requirement to purchase a specialized lock make this a 3-star experience for me. ... Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at SecureSpace Self Storage - 1014 Chesley Avenue include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Keyless Unit Access, Elevators, First Floor Access, Multi-Level Storage, Online Payment and RV Storage. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 18 to 300 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by SecureSpace Self Storage - 1014 Chesley Avenue start from $17 and can go up to $363 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
