Read some helpful reviews of Stuf Storage at 521 16th Street, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

I've rented storage for over a year now and would strongly recommend avoiding this place. Fees will automatically increase after about a year. I've been locked out of storage during regular hours - currently waiting over an hour for someone to come by and fix the digital lock to the front entrance of the facility. And the ceiling light in my unit shut off several months ago - so I can't properly organize my space and things. I've also experienced ceiling leaks during rainy weather on multiple occasions. I've both emailed and called customer service and have been told these issues would be addressed, and they have not. Absolutely stay away. UPDATE (10/6): Stuf moved me into a smaller unit at the same monthly cost and gave me a nine month 15% discount to account for the time I waited for the issues to be resolved. The new unit has good lighting and no apparent leaks. Unfortunately, several items in my old unit were damaged by water and mold and had to be thrown away. I'm glad for the workable resolution and I decided to stay because the location is safe (on a quiet block) and convenient (next to 19th Street BART). I also want to note that Kendahl on their team was excellent throughout this process - responsive, helpful, and professional. ... Read more

I was assisted with making a reservation last minute by Meagan Weld at the call center. She was very helpful detailed and patient with all my questions. I was able to make it the facility almost by 5pm and was assisted by Magdalene Brown the property manager. She walked me through the facility and gave me the rundown. I was impressed and signed the contract to start the same day instead of the next day which would be Sat. Rates were amazing and I was assured they wouldn’t have any major increases ever 6 months like extra space storage. ... Read more

Easy to move in but was very surprised by the email sent 12/23/24 that they’re shutting the storage facility down by 1/31/25. Though it’s close to BART, definitely some drawbacks since there’s no ramp and parking is not that convenient. Too bad. It was pretty great. ... Read more

This storage is not worth it anymore. Here are the reasons. 1. There is no parking in front of the building. it is reserved for fire department. 2. The pricing is non-transparent. I started with one price and then they came up with additional fees. 3. The digital key is unreliable. More than once I had to call the support to ask a person to open the door or had to turn around because there was no access. 4. Their support is unprofessional and rude. 5. The ultimate and most important reason for which I will be moving out and requesting a refund for the services (or processing a chargeback with my bank)- with NO advance notice they changed their operation hours from 24/7 to 8 am to 8 pm. Not only it is inconvenient, it is unacceptable to do it with no notice whatsoever. ... Read more

We've had a great experience so far when the Stuf storage in downtown Oakland. The remote customer service is responsive good at problem solving. Alerted us right away when we had accidentally left our unit unsecured. Sent maintenance out right away when someone had locked the new unit we were moving into. Other customers we've met their are all very nice . Not all units are equally well lit, so I'm going to reach out to customer service to see if there's anything we can do to get more light in our space. ... Read more

This location is the basement of a co-working space. Overall happy with this storage unit. It's convienent that it's tech enabled. The downside is the location doesn't have parking, only yellow and red curbs, I'd like for them to supply more dollys to move things, and the elevator shuts after a couple seconds. My stuff has been safe/clean which is most important. ... Read more

Stuf is the ideal self-storage facility. The 24/7 access is incredibly convenient for me, as I am often busy during traditional working hours. I like that I can easily stop by to pick up and/or drop off whatever I need to from my storage unit whenever I want. The facility is well-protected, as you need to use the Stuf app to unlock the door into the building, and there are multiple security cameras where the units are located. Setting up my unit was very straightforward, and the Stuf team was incredibly responsive and efficient. There are dollies available to move your items if need be and the units are climate-controlled, which is especially important during these hotter summer months. I initially planned on just keeping my storage unit for a few months, but I will probably stay with Stuf for much longer just because of how much I have loved the experience. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Stuf Storage - 521 16th Street include the following amenities: Indoor, Onsite Manager, Security Camera and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
