Frequently asked questions

To keep your 5'x5' unit organized, make sure to keep the bulkiest items at the back of the unit. Stack boxes or storage bins on the side, putting the heaviest ones at the bottom to avoid damaging the items inside. Label the boxes and keep a written record of what you are putting in and taking out of the unit.

While 5'x5' units are the smallest standard units, there are some with even smaller dimensions. Some facilities also offer the so-called 'locker' sizes, which can be 3'x4', 4'x5' or 5'x4' in size, for example.

Indoor storage units usually provide extra protection for your items both in terms of security, as they can be accessed only from the inside of the building, and also in terms of the conditions of the unit itself. Indoor units very often come with climate control, which ensures an optimal temperature and humidity level at all times to protect the condition of your belongings. By contrast, outdoor 5'x5' units are easily accessible from the parking lot and typically do not have the benefit of climate control.

Depending on the size of your boxes, you can probably fit about 5-8 boxes in a 5'x5' unit if you can make the best use of the space. Keep in mind that a 5'x5' unit is about the size of a small closet, so make sure to stack the boxes, with the heavier ones at the bottom.

A 5'x5' unit might be compact, but it can hold the contents of a studio apartment or a dorm room, making it perfect for students. It can accommodate a dresser, any furniture that can be disassembled, and a few average-sized moving boxes.

As a queen-sized bed is around 60 inches wide and 80 inches long, it could make it into a 5'x5' unit, either disassembled or stood vertically, but we don't recommend it. However, a 5'x10' unit would be a better choice for mattresses of this size as they should not be stored vertically for any length of time.

A standard bicycle can probably fit inside a 5'x5' unit, diagonally, but you won't have much room left for other items. If you need to store a box or two or some outdoor gear, you are better off renting a larger unit size. Moreover, if you want to store several bicycles, you will also need to upgrade the unit size, as a 5'x5' unit will not be able to accommodate them.

A motorcycle is usually too large for a 5'x5' unit, even when fitted in diagonally. They're typically too long for this unit size and a 5'x10' unit is more suitable.

Some small couches can fit inside a 5'x5' storage unit, but you might need to store them diagonally to make them fit.

If you need to store a washer and a dryer, a 5'x5' storage unit is able to accommodate these appliances.

You would need a pickup truck or a moving van to transport items that would fit inside a 5'x5' unit. As for something to tow behind your car, a 4'x8' or 5'x8' cargo trailer would also be sufficient.
