Miami’s Skyline Grows Bolder: 10 Striking Before-and-After Images Show the City’s High-Rise Construction Boom

With more than 300 high-rises, the city of Miami is not new to megastructures. Ever since the Freedom Tower topped out in 1925, Miami’s commercial real estate market has become the playground of the boldest architects who have turned Miami’s skyline into one of the most recognizable urban landscapes in the world. The developers’ race to deliver stunning vertical structures is still on, but today’s boom is more residential and more about the appeal of living in inclusive live-work-play environments.

Miami’s Dynamic Growth Visualized

Several new projects have been added to the city’s skyscraper inventory over the last decade, with many more in the pipeline, including the hyped SkyRise Miami which at 1,000 feet is set to become the tallest building in the city. 1. Downtown Miami

Among a plethora of innovative office and residential high-rises standing tall in Miami’s downtown, JW Marriott Marquis Miami brings energy and sophistication to the vibrant urban center. Built in 2010, the 41-story hotel enjoys a prime location, near the American Airlines Arena, the new Perez Museum of Art, and the Performing Arts Center. Adjoining the five-star hotel, the office component of the complex – the Wells Fargo Center – rises 47 stories over Biscayne Bay.

Just across the street, another impressive edifice, the EPIC hotel goes 54 stories up into the sky. It features impressive views over Biscayne Bay, Brickell Key and Brickell Avenue, as well as the city lights of downtown Miami.

The three-tower Icon Brickell residential complex has surely changed the face of Miami’s financial district.
