Apartment or Dog Boarding House?

Building is getting progressively dirtier and unpleasant. Broken glass has been present for 2 weeks on the front stairs. Hallway and lobby reek of urine and animal filth. Tenants let their dogs run freely in the hallways. Walls are thin and dogs bark incessantly at all hours of the day.

Good Value, Unpredictable Environment

I have lived here for almost 3 months and my apartment is beautiful with stylish components (the cabinets, built-ins, floors, counter tops...). I love the amount of natural light I get in my unit. The units themselves don't share many walls because of the unique shape of the building so it feels very private. It's a quiet building. People are friendly but mostly keep to themselves. The property manager Anthony is very attentive, caring, and responsive. The location is really great and there's so many choices of where to eat or grocery shop within walking distance. Cons: the windows do not come with screens so you have to buy your own, the hallways at 542 25th/553 Sycamore smell often of pet urine or garbage masked by a wall plug, packages can go missing for days and be returned or never returned at all, maintenance does not answer requests in a timely fashion if at all, and they do not mention water being a part of the utility cost, they only advertise PGE.

My experience so far has been pleasant. The main floor access areas/hallways have a bit of an odd smell, but otherwise it has been enjoyable and I feel safe living at 553 Sycamore.

for the amount of rent being paid management is unsympathetic, lazy and driven by collecting rent but not actually doing much to make this a much comfortable and decent living community. its quite a shame.
