Great place to store my goods. The staff is always helpful and friendly. Johnnie and Laci were on site the last time I went to check on my things and change some payment info. The facility is the cleanest I have ever used!! They are always patrolling the area and buildings to make sure doors are closed, the temps and lights are functioning, and there are no concerns. The only thing I would suggest, is the keypad for the gate works but is a little dated and looks like someone might have hit it since it is leaning. ... Read more

As a nonprofit organization that serves Killeen and the surrounding areas, a storage unit was needed to store our equipment and supplies. I signed the contract on August 30, 2023 and included some of my Leadership Team to have access too include my Operation Manager & my Projects Manager. It seems like every year there's an issue with these people being able to make the necessary changes to suit the needs of our organization. One of our personnel quit and needed to be removed so that the new corporate card and Regional Manager could be added. Someone from their office called me to confirm that I knew of this. I agreed & requested that they send over the documents so that I could endorse them. Later, my RM called & asked were they able to help. I ended up have to stop my time with my family during the Christmas holidays to call back only for the same female that called me to tell me that she couldn't find my name in the system as an authorized tenant to make changes. How is this possible when I'm the one that opened the storage & started the lease; not to mention, she initially called me. These folks are unprofessional & obviously unequipped to handle companies and non-profits. ... Read more

I've had my storage unit there for almost 8 years. The only problem I have is there's only one camera up her row with no night vision. My unit was broken in and since they turned off their car lights all they saw was Shadows so there was a clean getaway. There's no cameras recording who comes in and out of the only gate with access. It's 2024 cameras are cheap no reason why a storage facility with multiple locations still have cameras from 1998. No night vision no camera with extra lighting. But yet we're supposed to feel at our items are safe especially for the Hunter $70 I spend every month since 2016. Other than that they're great but they need to invest in cameras which nowadays are not that expensive. So I will be installing my own rechargeable magnetic cameras in my unit with a bright spotlight hopefully Big Red Barn as a whole can upgrade their camera systems at all their locations so other people don't have to go what I've been through. A whole camera setup 25 cameras night vision 24 hours surveillance all that can be bought for under $300 I think the owners should invest they owe it to the people that relied on their security measures to maintain our property safe..staff is breat tho. Besides the point of Killeen Police Department taking over 4/5 hours to arrive so I gave up I will take it into my own hands to secure my storage unit with cameras and other deterrents ... Read more

Johnnie was a beyond phenomenal agent at the property in Killeen Texas. I came to the location actually two times. The first time to get information and I met Ms. Johnnie. Very polite and welcoming told me everything and very patient with me being disabled which I loved. I came back the next day and found a cheaper unit at another business. Even though I already made up my mind Ms. Johnnie still drove me on the golf cart to my unit for me to view it. Phenomenal place to me, Ms. Johnnie made me convinced definitely, and I for one, can be very picky. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Big Red Barn Self Storage - 2206 Windfield Drive include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, 24 hour access, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Kiosk Available, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
