Read some helpful reviews of Public Storage at 1800 South Lamar Blvd, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

Aidan and Justin have been very helpful at the S. Lamar location. When I arrived to help movers get into my parents’ storage location, our code would not work. Aidan came out and tested it and then reset it for us, which expedited the process. I went to return our old set of keys from another public storage location and Justin provided me with copies of previous transactions and terms of service, so my parents could have a paper copy. I was nervous that there would be more holdups but these two helped really move things along! ... Read more

Had my stuff in there for less than 2 months and my unit has already been broken into and equipment stolen. I don't know how they have a 4.6 star rating considering the most recent reviews are all 1 star. IF they do anything to actually help me recover my items or locate the thief, I will change my review. But for now, I am not holding my breath. Don't take you stuff here. ... Read more

The facility is fine but unfortunately Public Storage forces you to purchase a $20+ lock for the unit when you sign-up that they leave in the unit. You can only get a refund if you return the lock during the day during office hours. Unfortunately when I unloaded my items, it was after hours so the office was closed. Due to work and being out of town, I wasn’t able to return it within the month and now they claim that it’s impossible to refund me. This is terrible policy if you value your customers. Corporate was no help either. ... Read more

Justin was absolutely amazing and professional on my visit. He is one of the reasons that I chose this storage facility. We need more rad Justin's in the world. When choosing storage units go to this location and look for him! ... Read more

Gate has been broken for weeks. There is little to no security here. This site is the focal point of career criminals and management DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. Rent is adjustable and increases about 30% each quarter (or sooner). The climate controlled sections are kept at 85 degrees and are absolutely rampant with critters of all kinds. We experienced a serious infestation. Do not skip insurance. Highly recommend finding a local or family run option. Often at the PS location there is no one on the property who works there, and we see “gate runners” (people chasing cars to gain entry without a code) every time we are at our unit. Most importantly the climate controlled is hot & humid, the location is absolutely not secure and there are very serious bug infestations that led us to need to throw away our belongings and file insurance. Not OK. They’re taking top dollar and don’t care what happens to your stuff. Take care of yourselves out there, good luck. ... Read more

Don’t move your items into storage at Public Storage unless you want your monthly rate increased multiple times. I moved my items into storage here May of 2023. Here’s how many rate increases I have had since then: 1. November 2023 (6 months in) 2. August 2024 (15 months in) 3. April 2025 (24 months in) Three rate increases in TWO years?! I started at $177/month for a 10x10 and now I’m at $291… so they aren’t small rate increases either. ???? I’m not an unreasonable person. Rate increases make sense as the costs of everything rise. But I shouldn’t be getting more than one rate increase every year. Don’t expect what you sign your contract at to stay that way long. Going forward, once I move my items out I will not ever recommend Public Storage nor will I ever use them again. I’ll go out of my way to make it clear to anyone who considers storage not to use them. Which honestly is a shame because the storage units are clean and the building seems well maintained but be clear on what you’re getting into. If I had known how many rate increases there would be I would have never moved my items in here. (I gave 2 stars because they do have clean facilities). ... Read more

My storage unit was robbed and this location has not been forthcoming or made any motions to fix the damaged unit. Save yourself some grief and stay away from this facility. Pick one of the other 100s of storage units on the Lamar. Here's the backstory... Someone took what looks like crow bars to our unit and all the units around us. They literally bent and banged the doors and the walls to the point that the door wouldn't close (apparently according to the office manager). Public Storage called me and left a message. I called them repeatedly for a few weeks with no response. When I showed up at my unit a few weeks later, they had LOCKED ME OUT of my unit. I had to go to the office and have them let me in to my unit. At which time, the office manager demanded that I check and see if anything was missing. I don't know about you, but I often forget about all the things in my storage unit. I'm still not sure. I asked the office manager, can't you check the surveillance video and see if they left with something in their hands? The office manger said, no, I would have to call the police department and file and claim and the police could look a the video. What do you think the chances of APD responding to my claim and looking at the video? Also, I asked, will you fix all the damage caused by the break in? Again, the office manager said no and offered no other solutions. I am leaving this location and I recommend you save yourself some heartache and don't come here. ... Read more

I’ve had a great experience with the Public Storage facility at 1800 South Lamar in Austin, TX. The facility itself is everything you’d hope for—clean, well-lit, and well air-conditioned. But what truly sets this location apart is the staff, and in particular, Chamekia. Up until today, I had only interacted with her over the phone, where she was always helpful, courteous, knowledgeable, and efficient. But meeting her in person truly exceeded my expectations. Without getting into all the details, I was moving out of my unit and taking my things cross-country, and let’s just say a few unexpected challenges came up—entirely on my end. Chamekia went above and beyond to help me tackle and resolve them with ease. She remained calm, professional, and incredibly resourceful, helping me navigate what could have been a logistical nightmare. Her problem-solving skills, friendly demeanor, and steady presence made all the difference, and she enabled me to keep my cool in a situation that could have been overwhelming. I’ll remember her and her outstanding service for a long time. If you’re looking for a storage facility where the staff genuinely care and go the extra mile, I highly recommend this location—and Chamekia in particular! ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Public Storage - 1800 South Lamar Blvd include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Elevators, First Floor Access and Multi-Level Storage. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 200 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Public Storage - 1800 South Lamar Blvd start from $44 and can go up to $335 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
