Portland’s New Cool Status Gives Huge Push to Local Apartment Market: More than 2,700 New Rental Units Added to the City’s Inventory in 2015

Good news for Portland renters amidst accounts of rising rents and competitive rental markets. Thousands of apartments hit the city in 2015 – approx. 2,700 new units in the large-scale rental projects segment alone – giving Portlanders more choice when it comes to finding a reasonably priced abode to call home.
Portland may not be the cheapest city to rent in but it certainly ranks high on the list of the best places to be right now for young renters, particularly among cities on the West Coast that are currently acting like magnets for Millennials – and other people following the jobs trail. The average rent in Portland is 1,394, according to Yardi Matrix, right on par with Denver’s $1,387, yet much lower than what Seattleites and San Franciscans shell out on housing every month: $1,768 and $3,426, respectively. Top that off with some great outdoors, a lively dining and arts scene, and the promise of a free-spirited lifestyle, and you’ve got a city just primed for the picking.
