Home design trend: Wall decals

Share this article:

Wall decal or custom paint job? Fickle, indecisive, live in a rental, or have that constant need to keep up with the latest design ideas? Maybe all of the above describe your current situation? Then I have a feeling that wall decals may be your dream come true. Wall decals emerged as an ingenious alternative to its more permanent cousin, custom paint design on your walls. For those of us lacking the gift of artistic ability and/or the freedom to draw on the walls, the decal is the perfect option to be able to still create that custom look.

This trend has caught on like wildfire in the past year or so. You should be able to find funky decals everywhere from Target to Crate and Barrel these days. I am sure you have seen the origins of this brilliant design technique in the homes of your friends or splattering the walls of your favorite restaurants, the scripted words or phrases. You know what I’m talking about; those emboldened black script printed phrases like, “Home is a wonderful place to be”, or “All you need is love”.

As artistic expression evolves, and it always will, these inspirational quotes have brought us decals that not only add some flair to your home, but they can also become the central focal point of any room. You can find full color decals large enough to span floor to ceiling, wall-to-wall or small enough to add just a touch of something special. Stick a silly monkey on the wall of your kids’ room, a peaceful tree to set off your own bedroom, or a contemporary abstract decal for the living room. The possibilities are virtually endless.

When it comes down to it, decals are a renters dream. Vinyl wall decals require absolutely no artistic ability of your own, are much less expensive than framed art, won’t put holes in the wall, and are easily removed when it’s time to move out or you’re ready for a change. I can see virtually no downside to this glorious decorating trend.

Check out Etsy.com for every possible wall decal you can imagine. You’ll be sure to find just what you’re looking for at just the right price. Or, if you are hoping for something in particular, have a custom design printed and shipped to you at Dali Decals. Have fun decorating!
