San Francisco’s culinary landscape is so diverse and colorful that it actually mimics the city’s vibrant culture. From low-key taquerias serving street food to high-end restaurants with a view, there’s something for everyone and more!

Whether you’re a local foodie or a future resident looking for an apartment to rent in San Francisco, there are plenty of incredible dining spots to choose from. Here is a list of the best restaurants in San Francisco, in no particular order.

Waterbar

Seafood with a view — that’s the best way to describe this lovely dining spot on the Embarcadero, not far from Cupid’s Span. Boasting stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and floor-to-ceiling fish tanks, Waterbar is considered San Francisco’s foremost seafood restaurant. Everything on their menu is sustainably sourced, so you’re guaranteed a top culinary experience!

Foreign Cinema

This charming restaurant has been a San Francisco staple for more than 20 years. Located in the city’s Mission neighborhood, Foreign Cinema is the perfect location for movie enthusiasts who love outdoor dining. Just imagine enjoying sharing a delicious plateau de fruits de mer with your date while watching “Casablanca” projected on the patio wall! Foreign Cinema can get crowded, especially during the weekend, so it’s best if you book a reservation.

El Farolito

Looking for a no-frills Mexican restaurant to satisfy your late-night cravings? There’s no better choice than El Farolito! It has multiple locations in San Francisco, but our fave is the one on Mission Street next to the BART station. Their quesadillas and burritos are the best in town and you’ll definitely come back for more! Just keep in mind that this is a cash-only place and there’s no seating except for a few tables by the entrance.

Saison

Located in a historic building in the SoMa district, this high-end French-American restaurant has two Michelin stars and is one of the best restaurants in the world. Dining here is an experience in itself: apart from the impressive décor, Saison has an open-kitchen concept, which creates an intimate exchange between the guests and the restaurant’s team.

Shizen

This fully vegan sushi place in the Mission District is a popular destination among locals and tourists, particularly those who don’t love meat so much. Each dish on Shizen’s ample menu is innovative and delicious, even for die-hard carnivores! Shizen takes reservations, so be sure to book one in advance unless you want to wait for hours to be seated.

Niku Steakhouse

Meat lovers will have a top-notch culinary experience at Niku, an ultra-luxury Japanese–American steakhouse in the Design District. Sitting at the counter to watch the chef work his magic over the hot coal is nothing less than mesmerizing! For a more intimate dinner, you can book a table in their private dining room that’s tucked behind a glass wall showcasing the restaurant’s wine collection.

Rich Table

Nestled within Hayes Valley, a bustling neighborhood in the Western Addition, Rich Table is a must for any foodie visiting San Francisco. This fine-dining restaurant offers amazing Californian food and top-shelf service in a laid-back atmosphere. As with any popular San Francisco dining place, it’s best to book a reservation in advance.

Montesacro

Exploring San Francisco’s vibrant food scene wouldn’t be complete without tasting the amazing creations at Montesacro, located in the Mid-Market neighborhood. Montesacro takes price in being America’s first pinseria Romana, serving authentic pinsa Romana, which comes in the form of an oblong flatbread with a crunchy outside and a soft, cloudy inside.
