Choosing to live in the White Rock area is a pretty easy choice to make, as long as you don’t work on the other side of town. It’s scenic and White Rock Lake offers a 10 mile running trail in addition to all the other “by the lake” things to do. Surrounding White Rock Lake, however, is a sea of older homes dotted with new mini mansions which begs the question: where do I rent? There actually are a few little pockets of rental communities ranging from pretty nice to nothing special.

The two little pockets of apartments near White Rock (“near” as in walking distance) are around Gaston and Grand and a little further northeast off Garland Road. At most of these places you’ll pay slightly more than $1 per square foot for your regular (but not crappy) apartment, like at the Oaks White Rock. For a more luxury living option, any of the Power Properties places (like The Verandahs) will give you completely updated interiors with hardwoods and the whole nine, as well as extremely nice exteriors, pools and landscaping. Here you will pay a bit more per square foot, like about $1000 (give or take) for 600 – 800 square feet.

The best place to rent in the area is further up Garland Road at the White Rock Lake Apartment Villas. They offer updated designer kitchens, big patios, stunning views and the community even has a sand volleyball court. Rent here is quite a bit higher, and you won’t get out of there for under $1000 a month for around 700 square feet. For something not quite as steep, check out the Trails of White Rock, though the interiors won’t be as nice.

The budget option in the White Rock area is a little further from the lake (but not too far) at The Vineyards. Here you’ll get your no-nonsense, run of the mill apartment but you’re actually paying less than $1 per square foot. This property is a good option if you mostly spend your time outdoors, rather than staying inside in the lap of luxury.
