Tips for turning your Chicago apartment into an inviting summer retreat

Summer is a time for joy, for festivals and for invigorating treats. Here are a few tips on how to let summer into your Chicago apartment as well. Because there’s nothing more stimulating than arriving home after a hard day’s work and finding comfort in your staycation resort.

Use variety as an instrument for inviting the vacation feel into your home, either as a general theme governing your entire interior design or just by adding a few striking individual pieces; don’t be afraid to use rich colors and lively shapes for a plus of vibrancy in a neutral living room. A mix of various patterns, textures and colors will add depth and character to any room. The bolder the essence, the stronger the overall impact will be in the end. Just be careful not to overcrowd the space and stick to a natural line.

Your bedroom should abound with positive energy and warm feelings. Every person needs a good night’s sleep for a better quality of life so make sure you’ve got your own corner of heaven set up in your apartment. Consider adding a ceiling fan to ensure proper ventilation and open windows for at least half an hour before going to bed every night. Don’t use dark colors if your bedroom is rather small. Instead turn to pastel hues as they are perfect to create an impression of space and may brighten your whole home environment.

The rest of your home could also benefit from lighter shades, either as a general chromatic motif or just a few specific touches. You could paint your entryway in green mint or pale blue, or decorate your living room in cool sherbet tones like yellow and raspberry pink.

Daffodils are a great choice of flowers for a vacation-inspired look; so subtle yet so strong, these pretty little details will add oomph and a delicately sweet aroma to your quarters. Throw in a few patterned cushions, floral prints or colorful fixtures and your living room will overflow with vigor and liveliness.
