History

While the city of Dallas proper has a long and rich history dating back to the 1800s, the area of Far North Dallas, including Timberglen, mostly remained empty land until the 1950s. It was around that time that developers, sensing plenty of opportunities among those looking to settle further out from the city, began expanding into these and other now-suburban areas. Today’s Timberglen is a small but vibrant community that sits near other major Dallas area cities including Farmers Branch, Addison, and Carrolton.

Who Lives Here?

Though there are some housing opportunities for young professionals looking simply for a short commute into the city, the majority of Timberglen residents are families looking to take advantage of the convenient, upscale opportunities that the neighborhood offers. Great schools, plenty of things to do in surrounding areas, and gated communities are among the factors that add to the appeal of life in Timberglen for families.

Local Attractions and Culture

While the neighborhood of Timberglen is itself too small to host much entertainment of its own, residents have easy access to plenty of surrounding areas where they can live it up at vibrant festivals and fantastic events.

If you have a day to spend with the kids, you can get in on the action at nearby Adventure Landing, which has everything from batting cages to mini-golf and a fully stocked arcade with plenty of prizes to go around. Or head to LOOK Cinemas for even more family-friendly entertainment. This cinema features five theatrical experiences, including a dining theater, enhanced projection theater and – for the adults on a date night – a drinking theater with a cocktail bar.

Of course, those who love dining out want to know what they can expect from the dining culture in and around Timberglen. Fortunately, there is a wealth of fantastic food options in the area, with everything from fine culinary treats to casual eateries that are perfect for gatherings with friends.

Pizza and wine make for a perfect pairing, and you can find a hearty sampling of both at Coal Vines. Billed as a pizza wine bar, you can find delicious treats from white pizza topped with fresh ricotta, mozzarella, Parmesan and fresh tomatoes to a classic Margherita-style pizza.

Are you in the mood for authentic Mexican fare? Then be sure to check out Cuquita’s Restaurant. Try the Pollo en Mole – pulled chicken breast served in a classic mole sauce – or stop by for breakfast and try the delectable Huevos Rancheros.

The heart of Texas might not seem like the place to find an authentic New York-style deli, but Deli-News serves up an excellent sampling of tasty treats that’ll make you think you’re just a train ride away from the Brooklyn Bridge. This deli is filled to the brim with latkes, kugels, and more, as well as plenty of treats from pastrami to burgers to knockwurst on their lunch and dinner menus.

Timberglen also puts locals within a stone’s throw of two of the area’s premier shopping destinations – The Shops at Willow Bend and the Dallas Galleria. There, they can find some of the hottest retailers and name brand fashions at stores ranging from Tiffany & Co. to Brooks Brothers, Anthropologie, Louis Vuitton, and more. At the Dallas Galleria, visitors can try their skills on the indoor ice skating rink or take part in special events throughout the year, while The Shops at Willow Bend has some great eateries and a family-friendly play area.

Why Live Here?

This residential neighborhood abounds in green spaces, and locals can easily get out and about with numerous recreational areas and parks in nearby communities. Among these are the 4.9-acre Barry H Barker Park, established in 1998, and Peter Pan Park, a refreshing residential park of just under 10 acres where you can find a playground, benches, and jogging trails.
