Dallas Design District makes its way from up and coming to hip and trendy

The Dallas Design District used to be a “strictly to the trade only” warehouse district for area interior design professionals. Over about the last decade, however, after some revitalization efforts, this warehouse district previously left only to the professionals has blossomed into one of Dallas’ hottest neighborhoods to hang your hat.

To start, a good chunk of those “STTTO” businesses have opened their doors to the general public. A handful of art galleries have also set up shop.  Add to that four trendy, upscale loft and apartment communities with top-notch amenities and you’ve got the perfect recipe for an eclectic and bustling community.

When it comes to luxury living, the living spaces in the Design District offer more than just upscale interiors. Some of the extra special touches and amenities you can find in this area include iPod-docking stations with in-ceiling speaker systems, rooftop patios (great for views of the city), resort-style swimming pools, designer retail showrooms, in-unit sun rooms, garden courts, fenced dog parks and 1900 Lofts even offers free wi-fi in every unit.

Once artists set up camp to live and/or work in any given neighborhood, retail and restaurants are never far behind. Most of the retail brick and mortars consist of furniture, antique and home décor storefronts that have called the district home for years. Now that they are open to the public the Dallas Design District has become a hotspot to outfit an entire home or room, or just to find that one distinctive piece to really bring a space together.

The Design District already boasted some of the best home-cookin’, greasy spoons in the metroplex (like Mama’s Daughter’s Diner). As of late some posh new ventures have also opened up on the dining and drinking scene including Oak, offering International cuisine and clever cocktails and the Meddlesome Moth, Dallas’ first ever gastro pub.

Whether you’re looking for a hip spot to shop, dine, reside, or all of the above, the Dallas Design District boasts the whole shebang.
