Chicago style – where to find great home design

Looking for the hippest and happeningest (we made that word up) places in Chicago to find great design and décor items? Here’s the buzz on the street about who’s got the goods for great stylely house stuff.

For vintage, used and mid-century modern style, check out Post 27, located at 1819 W. Grand Avenue. Their collection of hip furniture has price points ranging from the reasonable to the getting-ridiculous, but it’s all listed right there on the website, so you know what you’re getting into. The art selection is reasonably priced and the fashion – mostly featuring cute hats and bags – is not to be missed. If you are part of the locavore movement and interested in supporting local artists, check out their vendor  page for great suggestions.

For retro dishes and tablewear, let POSH Chicago’s Flea Market Finds do the shopping for you. They get all sorts of goods from historic hotels, estate sales and flea markets. What’s better than nice new china? Nice old china.

State Street Salvage takes the best of the old and makes it new. Their expert skills as craftsmen ensures that you are ending up with a piece of furniture that will never be in the salvage pile again. Heavy woods, iron accents and room-defining pieces.

If you prefer modern furniture and have the budget to be able to afford it, the top of the line supplier in Chicago is Morlen Sinoway, 1052 West Fulton Market if you want to browse. Get great ideas from their room vignette side show. They can create a custom piece for a hard-to-fit space or if you brilliant idea just doesn’t seem to exist in real life.
