Why is downtown Phoenix becoming such a popular place to call home? The once sleepy downtown is amid a historic revitalization and quickly transitioning into a dynamic urban mecca. With hundreds of bars, restaurants, boutiques, and a plethora of arts and cultural attractions, the sixth-largest city in the country has created an unparalleled environment to work, live, and play, and more and more people are looking for apartments for rent in downtown Phoenix.

What Can You Do in Downtown Phoenix?

Adjacent to Phoenix Center for The Arts, Margaret T. Hance Park is home to the Japanese Friendship Garden and the McClelland Irish Library. The 32-acre park is in the process of a $118 million renovation, which includes a skate park and an amphitheater.

Construction and Development

Downtown Phoenix borders 7th Street and 7th Avenue east to west and Jackson Street to the I-10 south to north. With many Baby Boomers leaving the suburbs to make downtown their home, along with students and Millennials, the demographics are highly diverse. Phoenix has seen an 8% increase in population since 2010, making it necessary to increase housing and commercial buildings, specifically downtown.

Block 23 at Cityscape, a RED Development, offers a live-work-play destination for residents. Lavish urban apartments, a multi-level Fry’s Marketplace grocery store, 200,000 square feet of office space, and plans for retail and dining make Block 23 convenient and luxurious.

The Ryan luxury apartments are within walking distance of Fry’s Marketplace, Arizona Science Center, Hard Rock Cafe, Comerica Theater, and Talking Stick Arena, along with several restaurants and lounges. Locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables along with plants and herbs can be found each Saturday at the market.

Cityscape is downtown Phoenix’s shopping, entertainment, nightlife, and dining destination. The $500 million high-rise complex houses Lucky Strike, Stand Up Live, Blue Hound, and several other restaurants and retail shops. The social hub sits conveniently next to Chase Field and US Airways Center, making it perfect for dinner and drinks after a game.

The former garage turned music venue, Crescent Ballroom, features local to international music artists. With a mid-size capacity of 550, Crescent Ballroom is more than a music venue. With a full bar service and kitchen, the popular ballroom is open for lunch and drinks daily until midnight.

Many Phoenicians meet at the multi-level Bar Smith for drinks and dancing. Located in the Phoenix metropolitan nightlife sector, Bar Smith is not a place to grab a relaxing drink and catch up with friends. Instead, this vibrant nightclub is a place to get your dancing shoes on.

Where to Eat in Downtown Phoenix

Downtown Phoenix is well known for its array of tasty eateries. Whether you are in the mood for an omelet or filet mignon, you can easily have your tastebuds jumping for joy.

Located in Cityscape, The Arrogant Butcher is a perfect place for those craving a juicy steak or mouthwatering burger. This upscale, lively establishment is ideal to meet for drinks while waiting for a movie, game, or concert.

Living in Phoenix without a car is not easy unless you live downtown. Virtually everything needed can be found within walking distance in this neighborhood. However, when residents need to leave downtown, there are several options for transportation. Phoenix Light Rail runs through downtown and throughout the Phoenix metro area. There are also multiple city bus stops found all over downtown.

Schools and Employment

The Phoenix Elementary School District and Phoenix Union High School District cover the downtown neighborhood. Several nearby private and charter schools are available to students as well. Renowned Arizona School For The Arts and Bioscience High School are both located in downtown Phoenix. Several college campuses such as Arizona State University Downtown Campus, Northern Arizona University Biomedical Campus, and University of Arizona College of Medicine make downtown their home.

Several notable companies are located in downtown Phoenix. St. Joseph’s Hospital is one of the largest Arizona employers with over 5,000 employees working downtown. JPMorgan Chase & Co employs over 10,000 Arizonans with 2,640 employees in their downtown office.

With its emphasis on arts and culture, convenient shopping and dining, a dynamic nightlife, easy access to work, and reasonable cost of living, it’s easy to see why so many choose to make downtown Phoenix their live-work-play destination.
