Property managers are busy people; on a day-to-day basis, they have to handle maintenance requests, deal with resident complaints, process applications, find tenants for vacant units, and so much more.
They have a lot on their hands, but they strive to handle everything in a timely manner. So knowing when to contact them with a request is important, and that’s why our friends over at Kass Management put together this list of most crucial reasons to get in touch with your property manager:
When you have safety concerns
While property managers do everything they can to ensure the safety of the community, residents too play a key role in contributing to the general well-being of the community. That being said, if you ever find yourself suspicious of a visitor or you spot an issue with a common area door that doesn’t lock properly, make sure you notify your property manager.
When you have an emergency
Sure, even a dim light in the bedroom might seem like an emergency if you’re a student pulling an all-nighter to prepare for an exam. But generally, emergencies are of a much more serious nature; time sensitive matters like gas leaks, loss of heat, flooding, and fire should always be reported in a timely manner – and most management companies offer a 24-hour support hotline for precisely this type of emergencies.
When you have a general maintenance issue
Possibly the biggest upside to renting (versus owning) is that tenants generally benefit from free maintenance services; so make sure you make the most of it. And while some repairs don’t necessarily fit in the urgent category, they should still be reported to the property manager – who will know to quickly assess whether or not the problem can escalate.
When you have questions about moving
Whether you need help finding a good moving company, pointers on which elevator or stairwell to use for large pieces of furniture, or any questions related to a building’s move-in and/or move-out procedures, your property manager is the most qualified to help.
