These days the competition for admission to Universities is fierce. Analysts project it will only become more difficult with budget cuts forcing schools to cut back on all-around education expenditures. Tuition has been on the rise for the past decade, so boosting your child’s chances for receiving a grant or scholarship can mean the difference between them having the ability to attend college or completely miss out. Picking the right schools as early as kindergarten will establish the foundation your child will need for the rest of their educational future. No pressure, huh?
Phoenix schools aren’t necessarily known to be the overall best in the nation, but it’s not fair to say that the whole batch of apples is bad; we certainly have quite a few great ones in there.
The absolute greatest tool I have come across to help you select your child’s next school, or even check-up on their current one, is The Arizona School’s Guide by The Arizona Republic. This web tool allows you to research loads of information on every public or charter school in the entire State of Arizona. You are able to retrieve graduation rates, average AIMS scores by grade, and teacher to student ratios, among plenty of other information. Even better, they offer a tab that will automatically search news articles relating to the school. It is definitely a beneficial tool worth checking out.
The Arizona Department of Education performs a yearly report card for each and every public and charter school in the State of Arizona. Based upon this information they compile a ranked listing of the best performing school districts in the State. Check out some of the best in the Valley:
BASIS Schools – Charter schools with locations across Valley
Cave Creek Unified School District
Great Hearts Academies – Charter Schools located all across the Valley
Higley Unified School District
Chandler Unified School District
Scottsdale Unified School District
Many high-ranking school districts are located beyond the Valley-Metro area. The schools are scored based upon a multitude of different criteria including AIMS test scores, AZELLA scores, as well as NAEP scores; the Arizona Department of Education website describes these scoring models in detail.
If you’re looking to move before this upcoming school year, don’t forget to think about the school districts you are considering. Don’t always rule out the option of Charter schools as well; many are low or free of cost thanks to Government subsidies. Happy hunting!
