It’s been said that you need a car to get anywhere in Atlanta. That’s…actually kind of true, unfortunately, but you don’t need a car to get everywhere in the city and that’s the upside! As the Beltline improves slowly but surely, many cities and neighborhoods have taken it upon themselves to improve their walkability, including access to public transit, bike lanes, sidewalks, and wise uses of space. Check out Atlanta’s most pedestrian-friendly areas.

1. Sweet Auburn– Live, work, play and shop in a neighborhood packed with easily accessible resources. The cool things about Sweet Auburn (aside from its rich history) are the jewels tucked away in the least expected places. Jump into excellent dive bars with local live music, phenomenal hole-in-the-wall restaurants, and unique shops.
2. Poncey-Highland– Get to know one of the city’s strongest growing neighborhoods and the future home to the Ponce City Market. This area straddles the happening Ponce de Leon Avenue and leads into the hip Highlands district, both rife with eateries, parks, shops, and events.
3. Buckhead Village– Fans of nightlife and luxury living can’t get enough of nearby Buckhead, with its chic shops and award-winning restaurants. This neighborhood furnishes access to some of the most highly valued real estate in town.
4. Virginia Highland– You could literally get rid of your car if you lived here. Groceries, clothing, entertainment and more all within reach by foot or transit. While housing here will set you back a pretty penny the conveniences are incomparable—not to mention that you’ll have one of the most coveted addresses among the young and thriving.
5. Inman Park– For those who prefer to do a significant amount of their living outdoors, Inman Park is a resident’s dream come true. Enjoy ample trails, parks, and green space amid some of the most stunning homes around the city. Sidewalks lead from your front door to many of the area’s best amenities.
