A city of music and education, Nashville, TN, is a must-see destination for people from all over the country. The “Athens of the South” is a city rich in culture and history, surrounded by hills, and a hub for many visitors searching for all the fun things to do in Nashville.

Whether you’re renting an apartment in Nashville, TN, settling down in your own home, or simply visiting as a tourist, there are many things that you can do here. We asked locals to give us their recommendations and their favorite hidden gems in Nashville, so you can get the most authentic info. Here’s what they told us.

1. Visit the Country Music Hall of Fame

“Start your journey at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum,” recommended Toney Greer of The Blum Co. “This isn’t just a museum; it’s an experience that immerses you in the history and sounds of country music. Its vast collection of memorabilia and interactive exhibits make it a must-visit.”

2. Check out The Parthenon

“A full-scale replica of the original Parthenon in Athens, it’s a testament to Nashville’s moniker as the “Athens of the South,” says Greer. “Inside, you’ll find an art museum and a 42-foot statue of Athena, the tallest indoor sculpture in the Western world.”

3. Experience Live Music at the Bluebird Café

Another recommendation by Geer, he told us that “no visit to Nashville would be complete without experiencing live music. The Bluebird Cafe, an unassuming venue, is famous for its intimate live performances by both up-and-coming songwriters and big-name stars.”

4. See the Ryman Auditorium

Since we’re discussing music, we must mention the Ryman Auditorium as well. An emblem of Nashville’s rich musical legacy and often called the “Mother Church of Country Music,” it stands as a testament to the city’s undeniable influence in the music world. With its church pew seating and exceptional acoustics, performances at the Ryman provide an intimate and unmatched musical experience. Beyond its function as a venue, the Ryman serves as a bridge between Nashville’s past and present, welcoming both legends and emerging artists to its revered stage.

5. Spend a Day in Music Row

More than just another district, Music Row is the epicenter of Nashville’s music production, teeming with recording studios, radio stations, and record label offices. Characterized by its blend of historic and modern buildings, you can spend a day here taking in the beauty of the landmarks and allowing the rich history of the place to inspire you. Go for a stroll in the district and you might stumble across a lovely live performance or even the next big thing in music.

6. Escape to Nature in Radnor Lake State Park

“Located in South Nashville, Radnor Lake State Park is a beautiful natural haven,” says Kevin Groh of Cachi Life. “Boasting a network of trails stretching over six miles, it’s a beloved destination for people who enjoy hiking, bird watching, and immersing themselves in nature. The park’s atmosphere provides a needed escape from the bustling city life and the diverse wildlife that calls it home, which contributes to the magical ambiance.”

A short drive away from Nashville, the Cheekwood Estate and Gardens offers visitors a mix of art and botanical beauty. Originally the residence of the Cheek family, its sprawling 55 acres today are a meld of artfully designed landscapes, serene woodlands, and vibrant seasonal gardens. Besides the natural charm, the Cheekwood mansion houses an art museum with a curated collection spanning centuries, and the estate often hosts special exhibitions and events.

8. See Germantown & Enjoy the Cuisine

In Germantown you can find a lot of places to indulge in. “Just a short ride away in Germantown, you’ll discover Monell’s Housed in a charming Victorian building,” says Bryan Clayton, CEO of GreenPal. “This restaurant offers family-style Southern dining at its finest. Here, you’re not just getting a meal; you’re partaking in a tradition. Pass the fried chicken, gorge on the green beans, and savor the warm biscuits as you enjoy a meal shared with neighbors and strangers alike.”

Founder Austin Ray told us that “At Von Elrods, we have meticulously crafted an ambiance that captures the essence of a classic German beer hall while infusing it with the vibrant energy of Nashville. Our spacious indoor and outdoor areas provide the perfect setting for patrons to gather, socialize, and enjoy the finest selection of beers from local breweries and beyond. With a nod to the traditional Oktoberfest spirit, our warm and welcoming atmosphere creates an ideal backdrop for beer enthusiasts and revelers alike.”
