Enjoy All the Trendy Shops and Eateries in D.C.’s Logan Circle

Logan Circle Historic has buildings which vary in style, detail and materials. The area boasts many historical residential buildings of Victorian and Richardsonian architecture, dating back to the late 1800s alongside many modern urban office and apartment buildings.

Logan Circle itself is famous for its bronze equestrian statue of Major General John A. Logan which sits on a pink marble base to honor his service in the Civil War. It’s a trendy neighborhood which attracts many young professionals due to its boutique home décor stores, popular restaurants and craft beer pubs.

Where is Logan Circle?

Logan Circle is an actual circle, and neighborhood located in a historical district of Northwest Washington, D.C.  It is the only major circle in the downtown area which is strictly residential.

The circle is near Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan and Mount Vernon Square which puts it in the middle of all the action. It’s got a great vibe and has fun shops and restaurants.

History

Logan Circle’s Historic District consists of eight blocks surrounding the circle, which feature Victorian and Richardsonian Romanesque styles of architecture alongside modern offices and apartments. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 30, 1972.

It was once home to the African American educator, Mary McLeod Bethune, who founded the National Council of Negro Women, which is located near the circle. It houses the Mary McLeod Bethune Memorial Museum and the National Archives for Black Women’s History.

Lifestyle

What to Do

The long-established Studio Theatre presents boundary-pushing contemporary performances and offers acting lessons, often featuring many Broadway actors. Also check out The Black Cat music hall which has great pinball and pool tables.

Shop at the many boutiques featuring home décor such as Room & Board and Miss Pixie’s Furnishing and Whatnot, or Salt and Sundry for kitchen items.

Where to Eat and Drink

Many of the local bars and restaurants feature outdoor patios and roof decks such as El Centro which has great Mexican fare and awesome margaritas.

There are many Spanish restaurants including Estadio which have great tapas. Benito’s Place features great Latin fare from Central America.

Tortino Restaurant is a trattoria offering northern Italian meat pasta dishes in addition to a really happening happy hour.

Pearl Dive Oyster Palace features great seafood dishes with boardwalk décor and the bar is a popular hangout. Stoney’s is a great sports bar on P Street and don’t forget to also check out Bar Pilar – it has great sandwiches for after a night out on the town.

Due to the variety of residences around the circle, the prices for apartments for rent in Logan Circle vary from about $1200 for a studio to over $6,000 for a 2- or 3-bedroom apartment.

In addition to the homes are many great restaurants, bars and shops making it an awesome hangout for the young and hip crowd.

Transportation

Logan Circle is near Orange Line at McPherson Square Metro Station and served by the Green Line at the U Street Cardozo Station, Shaw/Howard University Station and Mt. Vernon Station and by the Red Line at DuPont Circle.

The area is served by many buses and taxis, and is walking distance from many historic attractions, as well as the business district.

Schools & Employment

The area is home to several good public schools such as Garrison Elementary School and Seaton Elementary School. The School Without Walls High School and the Kipp DC Lead Academy Public Charter School and Center City Public Charter School – Shaw Campus. The Capitol Hill Montessori School at Logan is also quite popular with residents.

The area is strictly residential so there is little employment outside of restaurants, bars and boutique shops.
