I know. School just got out for the summer, but it is already time to start thinking about where you are going to live next year. The Tempe Arizona State University campus is a massively sprawling campus making your living arrangements central to your lifestyle while at ASU. As an ASU alum, I can tell you that landing the place you want can be pretty competitive so it really is best to get a jump on your hunt, and if you find the right place, absolutely don’t hesitate to put down your deposit.
First and foremost, if you are reading this post and just graduated from high school and are eagerly looking forward to living on your own, I beg you to please try living in the dorms for at least one semester. Sure this is an apartment rental blog, but my only regret during my time at ASU was that I never lived in the dorms. Just try it! You have nothing to lose!
For the rest of you or those that don’t believe me about the dorms, there are tons of apartment complexes near the ASU campus. There is a huge range of complexes to choose from. There is everything from a place resembling a five star resort, all the way to places barely habitable by humans. Here is my list of places worth checking out right off the bat:
- University Crossings – The Crossings is also just down the street and within walking distance to campus. It is an older complex but the amenities and the proximity to campus certainly makeup for the negative factors. It’s not great but livable and inexpensive. Utilities are included in the ultra low rent by the way. Price Range: $579-$950
- Quadrangle Village Apartments–Known as “the quads”, this complex is insanely close to campus (walking distance) and I would guess, at least 90% occupied by ASU students. The apartment units are definitely dated but the complex is safe and you’ll have a dorm-like experience but with your own personal space and dignity intact. Price Range: $610-$950
- Vista Del Sol – This place is brand spanking new, gorgeous and located practically on campus. They are currently running a great deal offering no deposit and $150 off. This oasis-like complex is reserved for undergraduate and graduate students exclusively, so I’d call this the ultra-deluxe dorm lifestyle with no hovering RA. Price Range: $509-$1,159.
- San Marbeya – Another amenity packed complex, San Marbeya is gorgeous and is known for their pool parties. It is mostly inhabited by ASU students but there are the occasional outsiders wishing they were a Sun Devil. It is not within walking distance but close enough to the Orbit bus. Price Range: $899-$1,779.
With over 70,000 students in attendance at ASU, it can be difficult to get the authentic college experience. If you choose to move from the dorms (which I do after two years maximum), I would personally recommend you move into an ASU centered apartment complex. There are certainly places out there slightly cheaper or maybe a little closer to campus, but staying involved with campus life is well worth the few extra bucks a month.
