Are you in search of a rental apartment in San Diego? Or maybe you’re already relishing life as a renter in this lively coastal metropolis. No matter where you are in your renting journey, we picked the best beaches in San Diego for you to enjoy: Coronado Beach, Fletcher Cove, Black’s Beach, Ocean Beach and La Jolla Shores Beach.
With temperatures in San Diego hovering in the mid-70s most of the year and very low humidity, it’s no surprise that the city ranks first among the nation’s most pleasant places. This is only one of the reasons why it’s such a magnet for renters. Combine that near-perfect climate with 70 miles of spectacular coastline and sparkling sand beaches and you get the best recipe for a perfect vacation destination for both tourists and people looking for apartments to rent in San Diego. But did you know this Southern California city boasts more than 30 beaches? Here are our top five picks to help you relax and enjoy life outside your rental:
Coronado Beach
For renters who love a little old Hollywood story, this one is for you. Set against the glamorous red-roofed hotel that was the setting for Marilyn Monroe’s iconic “Some Like It Hot” film, this is by far the best beach in San Diego. Its fine white sand is mixed gold-like mineral mica, making the beach sparkle – literally! – all year round. This is one of San Diego’s widest beaches, so it almost never feels crowded, making it a perfect destination for a family beach day.

Fletcher Cove
If you only leave your apartment for unforgettable sunsets, this one’s for you. This popular beach borders a picturesque park in Solana Beach, one of SoCal’s friendliest towns that was once home to Bing Crosby. Located at the end of Lomas Santa Fe Drive, Fletcher Cove offers beautiful sunset views and is a great place for local crowds and tourists to hang out. To get to the beach, you need to cross the park, playground and free parking lot, then descend the ramp – and voilà, you’re all set for a day in the sun! Renter or not, this sure does sound like a great place to spend a day.

Black’s Beach
If you have a surfboard in your rental apartment, you’re probably going to want to mark down this beach. Nestled between Torrey Pines State Beach and La Jolla Shores is Black’s Beach, named after the Black family who once had a horse farm on the bluffs. Getting to this place can be a real challenge, as it involves a tricky descent along the cliffs of the Torrey Pines Gliderport, so it’s not exactly a family destination. Plus, it’s one of the only San Diego-area beaches where clothing is optional — but once you get there you won’t regret it! This two-mile secluded strip is particularly popular among experienced surfers due to deep underwater canyons that create powerful waves.

Ocean Beach
If you just rented a place in San Diego and are looking to get a taste of the local lifestyle, visit Ocean Beach. With its laid-back vibe, this place captures the essence of a vintage SoCal beach town. The beach is very popular among locals, who nicknamed it OB, but is also a hangout spot for skateboarders and tourists of all ages. Most people are drawn in by a wide variety of beachside restaurants and bars as well as surf shops and a vibrant nightlife. So many reasons to spend the day outside your apartment.

La Jolla Shores Beach
If you’re a renter raising children, this one’s for you. This mile-long sandy beach is located within La Jolla, a small community infused with SoCal’s laid-back spirit. It’s one of the best San Diego beaches for families, offering an abundance of activities for both adults and children as well as phenomenal sunset views. Due to its gentle waves, La Jolla Shores is the best place for people who are new to surfing. Time to test that surfboard hanging on the wall in your rental apartment.
