Overview

Discover life on the Charleston island with an indie spirit. Edged by rivers and salt marsh, the James Island life + style is urban but closer to nature—Wappoo Creek and Stono River sunsets, bicycling and boating, sea island farm markets.
We’re less blockbuster and more indie film. For dinner, we’re looking for a good wine or local beer and maybe some roasted Folly River oysters or wood-fired pizza.
Easier island living, the outdoors, the kitchen—it all matters.
One bridge from the peninsula, but we’re definitely different over here. The Standard is central to all that James Island has to offer. Within a few minutes’ walk or bike ride, you can be at the Terrace Plaza, home to the only theater in Charleston to show the best independent films, Terrace Theater.
The Art Deco-styled plaza is also home to favorite lunch and dinner cafes, Crust and Zia Taqueria.
Also within a half-mile is the Charleston Flower Market, the Riverland Terrace Boat Landing, and shopping & dining. Also nearby are banks, dentists and doctors, bus stops, dry cleaners, and the food trucks and farm stands of the Sunday Brunch Farmer's Market every Sunday at the Charleston Pour House.
The Standard is also only a couple of miles to Folly Beach, downtown Charleston, and Johns Island.
