Overpriced and devoid of communication

The Lofts are run very poorly. We moved in right as they opened and gave wiggle room to issues like water leaking from the ceiling and having to use emergency heat when regular heat failed, which costs more. It’s been 2 years and both continue to be an issue. The water also stains white on furniture and cabinets. When trying to speak with the owner/landlord we are constantly led in circles about how he has already fixed it, but he’ll keep trying to fix it. Not good enough, it happened quickly after moving in so it seems like an issue he should have known about yet let people move in (it’s not just our loft leaking). It happens during heavy rain, having grown up in Newark this is common weather in the summer and I’ve never had a place leak like this. The owner has also told us before that it wasn’t possible it was leaking in our apartment because of his “fixes”, despite the fact it was not only in our loft but the restaurant attached. When we moved in there was no mention of turning two lofts into airbnbs, which isn’t in itself an issue. The airbnbs rarely clean lint traps, and as management doesn’t that leaves residents cleaning up after them. There is a HUGE lack of cleanliness in the hallways and laundry rooms, dead bugs pile up and are cleaned sporadically. I’ve never used the dryers before and not had a huge knot of lint embedded into the fabric of something. (I don’t blame the airbnbs for clarity, I’m not sure what they’re told when they rent a loft.) For the price of rent, hiring someone to clean if the landlord cannot himself would greatly improve the loft's environment and resident morale, also listening to their issues instead of trying to ignore and deflect. If it weren’t for there being so many issues and lack of communication, I wouldn’t feel compelled to leave a review at all. After the first year rent went up without the issues being fixed, which shows where priorities lay.
