What others love about this property:
Has Potential
3-star building overall at best. The neighborhood and building have a lot of issues with noise. Some of the tenants who are just soooo excited about (maybe?) their first NYC apt can be obnoxiously loud and record themselves at the pool...on the rooftop...in the hallways....you get the point. The amenities are great, at no extra cost (though they're likely factored into the overall rent given living here is somewhat higher than other "luxury" buildings). Having a pool and gym readily available is a bonus. The apartment layouts are OK (saw a few on the initial tour). The front desk gossips because they know everyone's business, not a comfortable living situation. What stands out here, though, is the maintenance staff, and they know it. If you look at the Google reviews, they're 5 stars. The building encourages leaving a review after any one of the maintenance team visits your apt - all of the 5 stars are based on this. I'm inclined to believe they somehow report anything less than 5 stars to Google, because my review there was removed.
Great Apartment
The building was exactly what we hoped it would be. The staff is friendly and attentive, the maintenance team is incredibly responsive, and we love the location. Thanks for helping us secure such a great apartment
Best Rental Building
I have lived at 568 Union Avenue for 6 months now, and can definitively say that it is the best apartment I've ever rented. The building is in a convenient yet quiet location, has fantastic amenities, and a friendly staff. My apartment has modern finishes and is very well maintained by the maintenance team. I highly recommend living here.
Great location, poorly managed building
The management team has delegated too many things to untrained or inexperienced staff. For example, there was a massive construction project that was scheduled to take nearly 2 months. The project required permits, a noise mitigation plan, and coordination with contractors. Tenants were notified less than one working day before construction started and there were no clear emails that communicated that our units would be so loud that it would be near impossible to work, take a phone call, have a child nap, or ethically leave a pet in our units while construction was happening. For people who were working from home, this meant that they had to frantically find a new space where they could take phone calls. The management team was unavailable for questions and continued to demote these big issues to less experienced employees: the emails to follow were unhelpful, the accommodations were outrageously bad, and there was no feedback loop that solicited input on how they could improve. After I moved in, Heatherwood submitted official paperwork to a government organization asking if they could install Amazon hubs, change our front doors, and add a Latch system. What they did not communicate in the paperwork was they had ALREADY installed these things. In other words they were retroactively asking for a government organization for approval without clear acknowledgement that these upgrades had already been made. I have wondered if Heatherwood is committed to being compliant with the rules set for landlords. Lastly, this management company had a settlement with the SEIU for underpaying workers. I hope others reading this review find this to be deplorable. People are deserving to be paid and employers need to be organized in a way that does not allow them to inadvertently make these unethical mistakes. https://ag.ny.gov/press-release/2022/attorney-general-james-comptroller-lander-and-32bj-seiu-recover-3-million-real
