The Shelby is a quiet and welcoming place to live. It offers spacious, comfortable and very clean facilities. Very good location. Managed by friendly and helpful people. The most notable thing is the apartment, an efficiently designed, large and cozy space. I've been here for 4 months and I hope there will be many more.

The Shelby is badly in need of reinvestment. The elevator is old and breaks frequently. The laundry machines have been broken for almost six months and need to be replaced. The call box breaks frequently. Staff, including the maintenance staff and our property managers. are not set up for success.

It's a decent, no-frills building with some pre-war charm. The neighborhood is lovely and quiet with lots of tree-lined streets, but reasonably close to the H Street corridor. The building management responds to maintenance requests... eventually. They are not reliable when it comes to questions, requests, responding to email and so on.
