I loved this building.

I lived here from summer of 1968 to summer of 1969. I think my efficiency apartment was #607. It was on the opposite side from the church and overlooked a big, empty lot. It was called Hetherington House then. I loved the louvered screen doors and the big, walk-in closet. Miss Daisy worked on the front desk and Chappy was the mainteneance man. My rent was $110 a month.

The staff are the best

The staff at The Phoenix is what makes the property worth it. William consistently goes SO far above and beyond to make all residents feel at home. I frankly encountered a lot of issues while living here (my unit itself was good, but I had a lot of neighbor issues, super loud construction right outside my window, a malfunctioning radiator, plumbing issues, etc.), but William and Avery (maintenance) have been so incredibly quick and efficient to resolve any issues that came up. If it weren't for them, I would've been out of here a long time ago. As a single woman in my early 20s living alone in Downtown DC (essentially in the middle of a major construction zone too), I didn't always feel the most safe. But any concerns that I had, William always immediately took care of. When my rent was raised, I decided to move out -- what they're charging for an old studio with no dishwasher or washer/dryer in unit is absolutely crazy.
