Enjoying Our Marina Experience (Almost All the Time)

We’ve lived in the building for a year and overall have had a positive experience. The renovations took much longer than we were told when signing our lease, but the final result is beautiful—especially the amenities, which are a real highlight. The biggest issue we’ve faced is the lack of visitor and vendor parking. Even when dozens of spots sit empty, residents aren’t allowed to provide parking for cleaners or contractors. We’d understand if the garage were full, but that’s never been the case. Another concern is the fire alarm system. There seems to be at least one false alarm per month, and at this point we no longer trust the alerts—which could be dangerous. During one incident, we saw a neighbor who had survived the recent LA fires experience a panic attack because she thought her home was going to burn down again. That moment really underscored the emotional toll these alarms can have on residents. There are a few smaller issues as well. Soundproofing between units and hallways is minimal, particularly around the front doors. Some units have double doors that let living room sound travel straight into the hallway; thicker doors would go a long way in improving privacy. That said, the staff is friendly and patient. It can be confusing to know who to contact as new team members come on board, and we often end up reaching out to Laurel by default—who has always been helpful. The neighborhood is wonderful, and despite the challenges, we’re still very happy to call this place home.
