    Living in Medford, MA

Located six miles northwest of Boston, Medford is a small, diverse city with various entertainment, outdoor recreation, education, and employment opportunities in the city’s businesses or corporations. The developed public transportation system, easy access to major roadways, and proximity to Boston make Medford a popular place to rent for students, young professionals and families. Plus, renters who enjoy colder weather will enjoy Medford’s climate, which is characterized by warm summers and relatively cool winters. Average temperatures here range from 21°F to 82°F, with plenty of rain and snow throughout the year. Renting in Medford, MA

As home to Tufts University, the renting market in Medford is plentiful: It has a mixture of everything from affordable apartments for rent near the university to riverfront rental properties at the southern border with Mystic River. Generally, South Medford is the most popular area among renters, with rentals with four or more bedrooms that are close to lifestyle amenities and transit options. Meanwhile, other apartments in Medford are located along Interstate 93, providing access to Boston and surrounding areas. Notably, Massachusetts law protects renters by limiting the security deposit to one month’s rent, which has to be kept in a separate, interest-bearing account. Landlords must also maintain the rental unit’s gas lines, electrical wiring, water, and air conditioning in good working order, as well as provide the fuel for heat and hot water unless the rental agreement states otherwise. Additionally, there is no limit to the amount of rent that the landlord can increase, but 30 days prior notice is required before doing so.
