Read some helpful reviews of Ming Self Storage at 720 North 5th Street, shared by real renters with genuine experiences and honest opinions.

Ming Self Storage, which is conveniently located in Northern Liberties, is a local business with great, even outstanding service, for its customers. The staff was extremely helpful in all aspects of moving. It's not just a storage facility. . I contracted with their moving services to move an entire household. The movers were exceptional in their professionalism, efficiency and care. Not one item was broken. Everyone dreads moving. Ming made it easy. ... Read more

DO NOT USE THIS STORAGE FACILITY - absolutely horrendous customer service. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. From incompetent employees/managers to lack of transparency and communication, we had the worst experience using their storage facility for just less than 2 months. In August 2020, we reserved a storage unit at this facility over the phone (as we were moving from Charlotte to Philly). At first, it seemed simple enough, but we started to get a little annoyed when we had to call back 3 times to have someone send us an email confirmation. We notified them of the date and time we'd be moving our furniture into the unit (9/9 at 9:30 am) and the employee told us it would not be an issue since they open by 8am. On the morning of our move, we and the movers had arrived at 9:30am but had to wait over an hour because no one had come to open the business. Ming's employees knew the date/time, yet no one had informed us that the person who was supposed to open the doors had a "family emergency" and would not be arriving until 11. We incurred higher costs for our movers to wait around for someone to come open the facility and give us keys to our storage unit. With the "promotions" they offer, we elected to pay 2 months at 50% off, assuming that would cover 9/9 to 11/9. No one informed us that it would only cover through the end of October. On 11/5, my boyfriend received a call that he was late on his payments (even though they had his credit card info for automatic payments). He told them that we were moving out our stuff on the next day (11/6) and he would discuss payments when we'd be in person the next day. Again, on 11/6, movers came to collect our items from the storage unit. Only this time... there was a lock placed ON TOP of our lock. No one was working at the entire facility even though we were told that someone would be there from open to close. We had to call over 10 times to get in touch with someone at another Ming facility in Fishtown, only to be told once again that the employee could not come in due to a "family emergency". We were told the lock was placed on our lock due to late payments, even though my boyfriend told the employee the day before we'd be coming in to get our stuff. Once again, we incurred more costs from the movers having to wait around... this time for 2+ hours. When we finally got through to someone, they had us pay another month of payment to "clear" it in the system (which was completely uncessary) and said they'd send out someone to break the lock within the next hour. NOBODY CAME. We had to send our movers back and reschedule a completely new move, which of course was extremely expensive. This has been an absolute nightmare. The employees are completely incompetent. The "manager" Mr. Jackson is a complete coward who wouldn't ever return our calls even though we called many times and even went into the facility with our complaints after all our stuff had been moved out. We only were able to speak to him for about 5 minutes when we were in person and an employee called him directly. He provided NO solutions except to insult us and tell us that they could move out our furniture for a lower price than the movers for $325. WE WOULD NEVER TRUST THIS BUSINESS WITH OUR BELONGINGS. While I agree with supporting local businesses, this is definitely not one worth supporting. We had a terrible experience and they provided little to no solutions and refused to give our money back. DO NOT USE. ... Read more

I have had access issues during the last six months with my first storage unit and arrived to not have the access door open, no one on site, no one phone to help me - but was forced due to emergency to open a second unit this week and what a disaster - the area you slide for the lock of new unit is broken and busted and it didn’t work and caused me to injure and nrweg rio off my finger nail and start bleeding everywhere with no first aid kit on site; for my first trip the entire entrance bay was taken up for hours my someone else’s boxes that blocked access for hours, we had to lift things above and trip through their stuff; later for my second and third trip the garage doors didn’t work, from inside or out, we were stranded in rain end weather, the guy in phone at other location couldn’t help, the building maintence was not to be found, we were illegally forced to go down a slippery stairwell in pitch black with no lights moving large furniture and I had to pay my crew working time and a half foe the extra hour delay. The main bay even if the garage door did work was still mostly blocked. And for the fourth time this year the dollies on site were not seen or usable - my last three visit they were locked up - or not there. After brining these thjngs to attention of staff they didn’t apologize or offer to make anything right and said it was me and my card - yet that isn’t true as other people couldn’t access the units that night either (all before 7pm when they were open). It is not legal and unsafe to give me a door slider that is broken and deny access and then force us to go down a wet dark pitch black stairwell. And then to not apologize and offer even something to make up for it is unprofessional and disrespectful. My thumb is injured and I’m very upset at the situation and some of these issues have been the same for months. ... Read more

I highly recommended Ming self storage. Very professional & great customer service. I have worked with a lot of storage companies and I would say Ming’s is the best. Friendly, reliable and affordable. The best part as well is that it’s clean and none of my items are left damaged. ... Read more

So far I'm very happy with Ming Self Storage.. I like that it's in a residential building because it means the conditions are better than a place that's only storage. The only downside is that there's one garage door and one spot to move in/out at a time and sometimes residents park there. You also have to share the elevator with people using it for the residences. I'll update after a few months ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Ming Self Storage - 720 North 5th Street include the following amenities: Indoor, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Truck Rentals, Security Camera, Gate, Credit Cards Accepted, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 225 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Ming Self Storage - 720 North 5th Street start from $50 and can go up to $277 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
