Unfortunately, storage seekers beware, this company has single handedly managed to take a simple task like supplying a space for anyones extra belongings to be stored in a secure, reasonably priced facility with a slight piece of mind. To my dismay, choosing public storage was a big mistake i× would soon learnnot only question my level a to faulse accusations, harsh judgements and what i believed to be unkind customerSTOREAGE SEEKERS BEWARE! This companies ignorance & overall unfair & terrible customer relations skills has managed to shock me into complete and utter disbelief! In a hurry to find a reasonably priced facility to store my belongings i stumbled across what i belived to be a good fit, until a month after i was settled to recive an email followed by a quite unsettling phone call. Thinking the worst, my items have somehow been comprimised, the once kind lady that helped me the move in process, was the agressive hateful person calling to inform me not only was my lock cut by the staff but that my items were unsecured and in fact will need to be removed within just 7 days. Stunned by the unkind attitude and disbelief, i proceeded to try and get more information as to why I would be needing to come retrieve my belongings in such short notice. She continues to make me feel as i was putting her out by asking so many questions, and proceeds to tell me that my exact gate code was used in connection to an incident that occurred recently with stolen property. This was the first I am to hear of this, at which I had only 1 month with that code and had not been by the storage since I moved in 30 days prior. In fact I had visited a few days before the call and my code for the gate not working and had to wait for a reset to gain access to my items. I informed the lady if my gate issues and she said I was banned and shouldn't have been let into the property. At which time I inquired what day this supposed theft took place and she let me know the cops we investigating and had been reported on the 10th of January. Giving the information the 29th fay of January I was quite angry no one had contacted me directly about this incident until oover 2 weeks after it had occurred an now my items we unsecured because they wanted to verify that I havent moved my items after the incident. She then informs me the police have an active investigation and that the customer whos items were taken would in fact be pressing charges against me in court. At this point this point the crazy just seemed to be something of a joke I asked to be contacted by a possible supervisor or someone that might be able to clear up this huge misunderstanding and I was told there wasnt anyone inbound speak with. After some continued argument back and forth I assured her to look at the cameras that cover the entire property and clearly they will see that I am not who they are looking for. And she assured me that she would have someone of a supervisor to contact me if they would see fit. And she wasnt sure that I should anticipate that to happen. After learning I was never informed of the situation that occurred several weeks prior, and that all my personal information was then turned over to the police for investigation without my knowledge, im became more upset. if just one person would make an effort to see that i was not present at the time of the incident by looking at the video footage and make this right with me because at this point im looking into somewhat of a discrimination case and/or release of my personal information without my consent. Never was i contacted by the "supervisor" nor was the company interested with even trying to entertain my innocence. I reached out to maybe get some clarity, seeing as how this was so ignorantly dismissed and what the outcome was of me asking to keep my unit. I called to the property again and ED, a nicer more understanding employee tried letting me know it wasnt his decision but that he would in fact try to reach upper management to have them contact me with more information. ... Public Storage is a business that provides excellence across the board and in comparison to other local options. The staff, especially "ED", who has exhibited service that is efficient, professional, is a problem solver, showed me kindness, and is prompt with response to message. The gated property, attentive to security measures, offers a drive up option unit which is perfect for anyone with physical limited abilities and seeking more convenient loading/unloading options. The space and property is cleaned and the prices were more frugal and or comparable but offered better options and quality. I've been pleased with my experience and business with Public Storage so far. As a newer resident, and the stress of moving and reestablishing life, this business made one major task and provision of extra storage space convenient and stress free. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Public Storage - 8706 South Shields Blvd include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, 24 hour access, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, Elevators, First Floor Access, Online Payment and RV Storage. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 1,080 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Public Storage - 8706 South Shields Blvd start from $22 and can go up to $164 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
