I recently ended my lease for unit A079 at Public Storage on Old Post Road in Edison, NJ, and wanted to share my experience for the benefit of future renters. Unfortunately, my time at this facility was disappointing. After only three months, my monthly rent increased by over $75, bringing my total to $303 for a 10x10 unit. I also experienced significant damage to my belongings due to mold, resulting in the loss of about a quarter of my stored items. The unit was advertised as climate-controlled, but it was consistently hot inside, and there was a noticeable mold and mildew smell throughout the hallways. The cleanliness of the facility was also a concern. I noticed debris, cobwebs, and bugs in the hallways on several occasions. Additionally, staff were not always present during posted office hours, which made it difficult to get assistance when needed. The gate access was unreliable at times, which added to the frustration. That said, I do want to acknowledge the kindness of an employee who was working on August 4. Although I didn’t catch his name, he was very professional, empathetic, and genuinely tried to help. He apologized for the condition of my unit and offered to assist with transferring to another one. However, by that time, I had already moved my belongings to a different facility that better meets my needs. I was also told by other renters that they had similar mold issues, with one woman even losing all of her furniture. It’s concerning that the facility has been made aware of these recurring problems but has not taken clear action to resolve them. While I understand no place is perfect, I hope this feedback is taken constructively. I truly don’t want to discourage business, but I do feel it’s important to share my experience so others can make an informed decision. ... Read more

I have couple of units in this location. Things got a lot better after John has come in as the manager. He is very proactive and responsive. When I pointed out the rusted handles of the shutter he immediately took note and when a shutter broken down, he was quick to look into it and fix it. I would definitely recommend this location based on his performance. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Public Storage - 289 Old Post Road include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, Elevators, First Floor Access, Multi-Level Storage and Online Payment. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 200 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Public Storage - 289 Old Post Road start from $65 and can go up to $370 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
