An insurance policy was added to charge more after I was already renting. No fair to go up without needing it when I first rented storage. All facts were given. How can I post the change. I have it in black and white. Or feel free to post my paperwork when I first rented in March 2023. ... Read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME!!!!! Management and prices keep changing without warning. No one is ever in the office during business hours randomly adds fees and when asked about it I was completely ignored I called headquarters they are clueless no notice when changing policies and they don’t allow copies of your “contract “ for this reason. Very unorganized. Personally wouldn’t have given any stars try somewhere else if you value your stuff. ... Read more

I have had a unit there for 2 years. I pay $100 a month for like a 10 x 10 unit. The management changed a few months back and now I can never get someone on the phone. You can never leave a message because the voicemail isn’t set up. There is not always someone there during the posted office hours and the one time I had trouble with my key card during normal access hours and called them they basically told me too bad so sad. The person I spoke with originally wasn’t even going to call me back and let me know. Not impressed. Won’t rent from them again. I recommend the storage units on McCotter!! ... Read more

When called about a storage unit I ask what I needed and what they charged. I was told one price. And when I got there got another price. I went ahead and got it cause I needed it. But they wait to start signing papers to tell you oh yea theres a 40 processing fee..on top of the rent. I said you might want to tell people that each page they sign is 10 bucks. Cause you sign 4 pages to start renting from them. That's kind of important to me..when I call to get all the info and then as I travel there from another town. To rent that could have been a problem if I didnt have the extra. Loot..and for 4 pages 40 bucks to start a rental. Is kind of up there..in my book. ... Read more

This place is great! Last year my husband and I had to sell our home. We called every storage unit nearby and not only was this climate controlled unit available in the size we wanted, but at a lower price than others! The office manager walked us through the facility, explained the contract, and even sold us things we forgot to get. Luckily the office has mattress covers, locks, boxes, things to make sure you have what you need for storage. It was so helpful to have a moving truck provided to bring our things into the unit. I love that it was easy to move in and had available carts and dollys for use. We just recently bought a new home and had to leave but I highly recommend this place. Never had a problem and it was easy to get in and out during the provided times. ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Southern Star Self Storage - 242 East Main Street include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, 24 hour access, Drive-Up Access, Retail Available, Onsite Manager, Truck Rentals, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, First Floor Access, Online Payment and RV Storage. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 50 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Southern Star Self Storage - 242 East Main Street start from $23 and can go up to $105 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
