If it were possible to leave a review without checking any number of stars, I would. When I first met the manager (if you’d call her that) to sign the contracts for my units, although nice, she was unprofessional. She quickly raced through the “important” information I’d need to know regarding my rentals so that we could discuss her impending divorce, her “sorry” husband, and how quickly she would be out of her current managerial position as soon as the job she was waiting on opened up. I didn’t think much of it at the time as every one is human and I don’t mind lending a listening ear; however I did find it a little off putting that she spoke so lowly of the man who owns the business, him being in another state and unable to defend himself. Fast forward just a short couple of months later, and I pull up to find a “red lock” on 1 of my 3 storage units. I texted her to inquire as I was confused, but also wanted to rectify the situation. To make an already long story short, by the time the conversation was over, I had gotten several different explanations, none of which made sense. The final reason I was given before she simply stopped responding to me was that our payment was late and there is a $15 late fee per unit. Even though that is neither here nor there since the bill was paid on the 2nd (well within the 5 day grace period noted both in the contract and given verbally by her), that still didn’t explain why only one of the three units had locks on it and why the $75 “balance” she was quoting me didn’t add up. Still I tried to be as decent as humanly possible, at which time she ignored me. Best part- next day, there was a lock on two of the units. She failed to answer any attempted communications before the close of business, and when we pulled up just a few mins after 5, she answered her door and rudely stated that it was after hours. After pointing out her failure to answer and/or respond and paying $45 (down $30 from the $75 quoted the night before), I finally was able to access my units. When the issue first arose, I thought it could be a simple mistake, as she’s not the most intelligent person I’ve ever met, but by the end of it, it was more than clear that she was being vindictive and petty. Advice from someone who NEVER leaves a bad review anywhere, EVER- store elsewhere, even if you have to travel further or pay more!!!! ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Benson Self Storage - 214 West Martin Street include the following amenities: 24 hour access, Drive-Up Access, Onsite Manager, Security Camera and Gate. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
