Weird situation happened today. A skinny guy staff open the door while I was getting into my stuffs. Very unfriendly, I ask him is everything ok. He didn't respond, pretending to looking for something and then left. He came in just to look at me. This never happen with other staffs. He is the new guy that I never met before. I thought He was gonna do something to me or looking to steal my stuffs because now he knows what is unit. I will have to move out soon. Very uncomfortable. ... Read more

Staff was nice enough, I had to get a bigger unit at move in and they helped without a fuss. Units were clean and doors weren't broken. My only gripe was that after 4 months their "promotional rate" expires, and they try to increase your monthly rate by almost 50%. I just moved my stuff to a different location rather than pay their increased price. ... Read more

Yan truly is the best employee to have and that you want to do business with, he is beyond understanding and helpful as he listens to you like a conscious kind human who not just makes you feel heard but does his best to actually help you.. this man is why I chose ExtraSpace and the only reason I didn’t go with one cheaper and closer because this is the kind of person I want to work with and for as he needs to be in charge so that the service level/rating of any company he helps run will drastically increase as Yan knows how to help serve customers and is one of the people you meet that restores your faith in humanity! ... Been at the Denver location for sometime...I would only leave 2 stars if it wasn't for the Manager Cliff...Cliff has been very fair with me over the entire time I've been there...I've had some ups and downs... mostly downs...these last 4 years...he has always been fair and helpful..can't speak for the rest of the locations...but when I get my stuff out...I won't be a returning customer...to each there own...good luck... ... Previously had an account in Indiana. Moved to Denver and received a quote of $45. Since i already had an account they just asked to update my phone and email NOT my address. When my rate went up to $90 i never was informed of this via updated email or phone number i was however apparently sent a letter via mail to an old address in Indiana which was never updated. Was planning a camping trip over the summer and went to my storage unit to grab some things over the weekend. I noticed everything had been disorganized. When i spoke to the office staffed they mentioned someone had broken into several units earlier that week. Again was i never notified of this by either email or phone number until after the fact. I was then moved to an indoor unit which apparently is more secure 2 stars because this location is close to my downtown apartment and half the price of closer units. Only a 10 minute drive away ... Let me start off with the fact that this is the most unsafe location I have used, and I've rented in several ESS locations around Denver. You can see in other reviews that units have been burglarized. Part of the issue is the area has a lot of homelessness. They rent units here and hang out in their units. I have come here in the evenings many times to find people sitting and even cooking inside units. On occasion you'll drive down one of the rows and see an open door on a unit get closed from the inside. There is a walk through gate that is only supposed to open from the inside, but it doesn't swing closed. The homeless will leave it ajar for their buddies to come in. The road in front will often have people living in their cars as well. The facility is also extremely tight and difficult to maneuver around. I have a Superduty F250 and it's very difficult to get to my unit. Safety is only part of the issue. I'm an over the road trucker who lives in my rig, so I store things I don't need with me. You always have to play the 'switch locations to get the online price' game when they get too high on rent. They play games with the rent. You'll get the the online price and then after 2 or 3 months they'll slowly start raising your rent. After a few raises I just go online and rent at a different location and move. This time, I've only been there 3 months and they've DOUBLED the rent. I was paying $43 a month for a 5X10 unit and got notice that they're raising it $83. I went online to see what they're currently renting for and their web rate for the same unit is $41, less than I'm paying. I also went and drove around the place and they have no less than 18 storage units vacant. I wanted to speak to a regional manager about the rent game and other issues so I called the office and left a message requesting the regional manager contact me. I get a call back from Cliff, who tells me he's the location manager. I ask him how I get in touch with the regional manager and he asked my "what do you need to speak to them for?" I told him that I wanted to speak to them about several things "including the freaking rent going up again." He became indignant, saying "He doesn't handle that I do, and you have to go through me. And you can get as angry and upset as you want but rents go up." He was very belligerent and testy, and I told him I still wanted to speak to the regional. He replied, "Well he's not going to help you, I'm the one who handles it, he's just going to pass it back to me, and if you want me to look into it I will, but I'm not going to let you bother him because he's busy." I said I don't understand why you're being aggressive but I don't appreciate the way you're behaving and I don't want to deal with you, you're being very rude and unprofessional. He then said you're the one being aggressive and saying the "freaking rent." I said freaking isn't a cuss word, I wasn't speaking angrily, I'm from NY and we say freaking all the time. It's not a cuss word. He said "It's a cuss word to me, and I don't care where you're from, I've been around the world twice, and you can call the corporate number if you want." I asked what's the regional managers name and he said "I'm not going to give that to you. You can just call the number on the website." I wasn't going to get anywhere talking to Cliff because she apparently is a very sensitive young lady. I hung up and called the toll free number on the website, but if you already have an account registered with your phone number it will recognize the number and reroute you back to the location office. I had to use one of my business lines to get through to customer service. I let the lady know about my experience and she apologized, saying that is not their policy and Cliffs behavior is unprofessional and not how they treat customers. I agreed with her. She said she would escalate the complaint to upper management, and I requested that I be called back. I will update once I speak to someone at corporate as well as to the regional manager. ... Got a call 1 hour before they closed. My unit was broken into. When I showed up, he was securing multiple units by putting screws on the doors. The employee working didn't seem to care much. He just said "what do you want to do? Move to another unit?". I asked if a police report was filed. He told no, that's on you... ... Read more

Frequently Asked Questions

Storage units available at Extra Space Storage - 11855 East 40th Avenue include the following amenities: Climate-Controlled, Indoor, Drive-Up Access, Onsite Manager, Contactless Renting, Security Camera, Gate, Parking, Credit Cards Accepted, Online Payment and RV Storage. Depending on what you need to put away in storage, you can discover there are some things you absolutely need, so make sure you check with the facility manager that you'll find everything you need on site.

This particular storage facility provides self storage units of different sizes, ranging from 25 to 400 square feet. Space is not an issue! If you have more belongings to store, or simply bulkier items or even vehicles, you should go for larger storage units.

You already know how much stuff you need to put in self storage, so figuring out the unit size you need is the next step. Smaller units such as 5'x5' or 5'x10' spaces can usually be filled with the amount of items you would normally store in a closet: a few chairs and lamps, sports equipment, garden tools and some boxes.

Moving on to larger sizes, imagine the 10'x10' and 10'x15' units as similar to a bedroom or a living room – larger pieces of furniture, sturdier equipment and bicycles can fit here. Finally, a 10'x20' unit has enough space for the contents of a 3-bedroom house, while the larger 10'x30' space easily accommodates the contents of a loaded semi-truck.

Monthly prices for units offered by Extra Space Storage - 11855 East 40th Avenue start from $51 and can go up to $425 for larger spaces.

Accessibility and quickness are key when it comes to storage, so drive-up storage units are generally regarded as very convenient. Pull your car right up to your storage space, load, unload, and you're good to go! However, if you're mostly storing temperature-sensitive items, you should rather consider indoor storage units.

Climate-controlled units maintain consistent temperatures and humidity levels all year round, making them perfect for all your sensitive items. Moisture and varying temperatures can damage a whole host of things, and that is why a lot of people choose to use climate-controlled units to store items like wooden furniture, electronics, artwork, documents and photographs, collectibles, antiques, etc. If the belongings you're storing are important to you, you should consider renting a climate-controlled unit.
