The Y enriches the lives of 65,000 Southern Nevadans each year, as they gain access to countless fitness, aquatic, and sporting activities led by trainers and volunteers in four different locations. The most important thing of all is that you will never be turned down, even if at some point you’re having a hard time paying for the membership. Biking & Running

For the outdoor enthusiasts, the Mojave Desert offers more than anything you can find inside the city. The nearby River Mountains Loop Trail is a non-motorized 34-mile trail, surrounding the River Mountains and connecting the Lake Mead Recreational Area, Hoover Dam, Henderson, Boulder City, and the rest of the Las Vegas Valley. If you’re a runner, a biker, a hiker, or even a horseback rider, this 12-foot wide paved/concrete path is your best option to burn calories, while enjoying some scenic views and the desert’s wildlife.

Hiking

Outdoor Travel Tours Vegas

Still, for beginners, it’s usually safer to explore the surroundings with an expert. So how about you contact Adam Bautz from Outdoor Travel Tours, to show you “the better side of Las Vegas”, as he calls it. He has years of experience in guiding adventure tours, striving to bring the outdoor lifestyle to the forefront in Las Vegas. All you need is comfortable clothing, athletic shoes, sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. And most of all, enthusiasm! You can choose between a shorter Valley of Fire Half-Day Tour (six hours) or Full-Day Adventure Packages (ten hours).

Climbing

Embark on an adventurous experience in a safe and fun environment at Nevada Climbing Center. If you’re into hiking and climbing, the facility will challenge you with over 7,500 sq. ft. of climbing surface, 27 top ropes, and a lead climbing cave. All-day passes are $14 for adults and $10 for kids, while for only $40/month you will gain unlimited access to NCC plus a guest pass per month to bring a friend along. Bonus, enjoy a complimentary belay lesson, that includes orientation and top-roping belay instructions. To learn more about basic or advanced climbing techniques, you can also take private lessons. A professional instructor will introduce you to bouldering, top-roping, traversing, slacklining, and more

Dancing

Dancing sounds like Friday night out, but what if you could combine working out and having fun? At Jazzercise Las Vegas Southwest Fitness Center you will burn up to 800 calories while blending dance with Pilates, yoga, kickboxing, and stretch training – all in a 55-minute session. There are also two other Henderson locations nearby. The music playlists are selected to keep you motivated and push your limits, because “when the music starts, you start transforming.” Classes vary, from LO – that has no impact on your joints, but still guarantees a total body workout – to Strike, Core, Fusion, or Dance Mixx high-intensity classes. So if you want to carve your body into the shape you strive for, then turn on your dancing mood. Also, check out their Community Blog for some amazing recipes to help you keep fit.

Martial Arts

With 2 locations in Vegas, Cobra Kai Jiu-Jitsu Academy is a mixed martial art training facility, where people can learn and practice jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, mixed martial arts, as well as strength and conditioning classes. You will learn self-defense skills by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to neutralize even bigger or stronger opponents. While practicing these techniques, you will not only get into better shape and lose weight, but also boost your self-confidence. Beginners are paired from the start with an advanced student who can guide them and explain the basics of jiu-jitsu, under expert supervision. Classes are one-hour long.

Swimming

Swimming in Las Vegas

Las Vegas’ glam hotels boast some amazing pools, but they’re usually rather expensive, or available mainly to their guests. To enjoy a full swimming workout, the Municipal Pool is a great option. Open nearly year-round, this 50-meter by 25-yard pool features 14 lanes, two one-meter springboards, and one three-meter springboard. Another public swimming facility to try out if you want to learn how to swim or just practice is the Desert Breeze Aquatic Facility, operated by the Clark County Parks & Recreation Department. With low daily admission fees ($3 for adults, $2 for children 3-17 years, and only $1 for seniors 55+ years) or season passes, you get access to both indoor pools and an outdoor water park, depending on the season. The center offers private swim lessons or buddy swim lessons with qualified instructors, various youth programs, and stroke classes. Water temperature ranges between 79-83 degrees. Make sure to read the pool rules, for your safety.

Jumping & Trampolining

How about getting a full-body workout in a totally different way? Get Air Las Vegas is an amazing trampoline park. The center offers intense calorie-burning activities, like jumping on thousands of sq. ft. of side-by-side trampolines, dodgeball, and slam ball on the trampolines. The activities are suitable for kids – even those under 46’’ in height – as well as grown-ups, but children under 10 must be supervised. To prevent you from slipping, Get Air socks are recommended. Don’t be a stranger to their blog – it’s packed with interesting facts about health and entertainment.
