The 5 Best Neighborhoods for Short-Term Renting in Philadelphia

Moving to the City of Brotherly Love is a bold choice. After all, what cities can brag about having been both the central meeting place for some of the nation’s most important historical events and also the setting for the most iconic “Rocky” scene? Even if you’re only thinking of relocating here temporarily, you’re in luck: There are plenty of apartments in Philadelphia that can be rented for a short term.

So, to help you choose the perfect spot for you, we’ve compiled a list (in no particular order) of the six best neighborhoods that are sure to appeal to short-term renters.

Winchester Park

Popular with families, this quiet neighborhood ranks high due to its suburban atmosphere and easy access to parks. Among the most interesting spots to visit in this area are the Frankford Avenue Bridge, one of the oldest surviving roadway bridges; the Holme Avenue Bridge; and the Insectarium. Meanwhile, for those who are passionate about the arts, the Penypack Theater — a historic, Art Deco-style movie house — is only 12 minutes away.

East Oak Lane

As one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city (its oldest house actually dates back to 1683), East Oak Lane is the perfect place for young professionals looking for a bit of peace and quiet. With plenty of diverse options for foodies and within close proximity of Ogontz Avenue, this neighborhood perfectly captures the atmosphere of living in an urban place but with the comfort of the suburbs.

Packer Park

This small neighborhood in southern Philadelphia is a nature lover’s ideal retreat. With easy access to Roosevelt Park, as well as Vendemmia Square, renters can enjoy a relaxing stroll in the park or even a boat ride on Edgewood Lake. Or, for those whose enjoy history, the American Swedish Historical Museum would make for a great educational weekend outing. It’s the oldest Swedish museum in the U.S. and offers 12 exhibition galleries.

Rittenhouse

This upscale neighborhood seems to be pulled straight out of a movie: High-end stores, small galleries and locally owned boutiques are just a few of the options that keep renters here entertained. The Rittenhouse Square and the Kimmel Center for Performing Arts are some of the more well-known attractions, but the Mütter Museum is nothing to scoff at, either. What’s more, a large majority of residents here are renters, too.

Upper Roxborough

A national historic district, Upper Roxborough is home to a number of old and beautiful buildings, such as the Shawmont Railroad Station, Miquon Station and Riverside Paper Mills. Popular with both young professionals and retirees, it has much to offer to both groups: Here, a relaxing walk in the park can easily turn into an outing with friends at one of the many vibrant bars and restaurants the neighborhood has to offer, or even a trip to the nearby City Center or Chinatown.
