Why Renters Love It Here
Great location, but major issues
• HVAC: major leaking, rusting and inaccurate temp issues persist. Also loud AF. • Bathtub Resurfacing: Done terribly twice, with toxic smells for 3 days you could smell it from the elevator. I really want to get it fixed and get out of the fumes this time maybe a hotel for me and my cat... but I'm doubtful that even if I do that that it will not be done badly again. • Toilet Repairs: Took three requests to get it "fixed" still runs... • The units are small and cramped, with a poorly designed closet—dark, tiny, and constantly stuck sliding doors. The doors get stuck are hard to pull, and sharp they will cut you if catch your head on it, like a knife. • The water here is extremely hard, which has been damaging to my hair. My shower head/filter have rusted and constantly have to cleaned. • The walls and floors are so thin that I can hear every single step my neighbors take Parking Garage Concerns: While the building offers a reserved garage spot, it doesn’t feel secure. Many residents leave the garage door open all night, which is sketchy and defeats the purpose of having one. Trash and Hallway: This is by far daily the grosses more unsanitary part of living here: • Residents leave trash bags in the hallways for hours before and after pickup of "trash fairies," creating unbearable smells daily that make you want to gag. • The hallway carpets are filthy, stained, and littered with spills. • Some residents treat the hallway as a personal dumping ground—I once saw someone leave their dog’s poop on a residential floor by the elevator for over five days! • Trash pickup staff often drag and leak the trash juice down the hallway and even into the elevator, without cleaning it up. -The building hosts events, but they’re almost always during regular work hours. It would be nice if events were scheduled after 7:30 PM so more residents could attend. -This building feels neglected, poorly managed, and lacking in basic standards of cleanliness and safe
I Couldn't Be Happier
I actually took my apartment sight-unseen last November because of the amazing job that Chase in the office did. The apartment is killer -- like a NYC loft! The Service and Office teams are 2nd to none - and I would recommend The Locks to anyone looking for an amazing place to call home -- right in the heart of downtown Richmond!
Review
It has been fine thus far, however, there could be less noise.
Keep looking
Gate 5/ 1 bed/ 1 Bath *Small closets with extra wide doors with very little access to your valuables. Stinky hallway with garbage smell since the valet trash guidelines are not reinforced. Loud beeping noice constantly on lobby from malfunction equipment install on the wall for almost a year now, “They fixed it” but within days starts all over again. I complaint for the first couple of month but same results as doing nothing.
Elegant downtown on the water
Smacked between Shockoe Bottom and The James River, The Locks apartments is hands down the best place to live in Richmond. The apartments are modern. The staff is super friendly and respond quickly. The maintenance staff will come the same day you need them. I have lived at the locks for going on 5 years now and it's fantastic.
