All rents are high in this neck of the woods, but 220 provides the best value. Units are much larger than units in the newest buildings in the area; yet you don't get the feeling that your home is outdated. Larger units, friendly staff, unbeatable location, and quiet neighbors outweigh the occasional maintenance issues.

This building has been in a steady decline over the last several years. There have been significant maintenance issues, including frequent elevator outages, often leaving the building with 1 or 2 elevators at times (down from it's normal 4). There have been inconsistencies with hot water and an increased frequency of electrical glitches / intermittent outages. The building has very limited protected parking for residence, and with the increased number of commercial options, parking is frustrating. The rooftop is in desperate need of modernizing. The new surrounding buildings have some sun protection where as 220 does not, and it seems as though JBG Smith has zero intention of rectifying this issue, making the pool area really uncomfortable to use in the middle of hot summer days. The main entrance of the building is not very accomodating for handicap and people with small children using strollers as it does not have an automatic button for door opening. The reedming qualities of this building are its location and the modernzation of the surrouding neighborhood, while the building itself is not being updated, despite increasing rent prices.

We really enjoy living at 220 20th Street, primarily because of its unbeatable location—it's close to work, great restaurants, and everything we need on a daily basis. The apartments are well-sized and comfortable, and the front office staff is consistently friendly and helpful, which makes a big difference. That said, there are some larger infrastructure issues that need to be addressed. The rooftop lounge is a great amenity, but the outdoor section lacks shade, and despite repeated resident feedback, this hasn't been improved—especially noticeable given that nearby newer buildings have accounted for this. We've also experienced ongoing maintenance challenges, such as frequent elevator outages, intermittent hot water, and occasional electrical issues. Parking can be difficult too, with limited protected spots for residents and increased competition from new commercial spaces nearby. The recently installed RFID garage gate system is also inconsistent and frustrating to use. Overall, it's a great place to live, but we'd love to see more attention given to the building’s long-term upkeep and resident comfort.
