The Washington Irving

Beautiful building, super responsive and friendly staff. Property manager/Alita/Sarah and maitenance staff are all great. Quarters for laundry are ridiculously outdated and a hassle. Back stairwell, basement, and floors/walls in that area are in HUGE need of a makeover. Downright scary/disgusting and take away fromcthe beauty of the rest of the building.

While there are some qualms about living at the Washington Irving (shared laundry, parking is difficult and the garage is expensive and not attached to the building, there are also no amenities) BUT the management is incredible. I have only lived here for about a month and have already had things taken care of faster than I was ever expecting. I cannot say enough good things about the maintenance and management here. I seriously tell everyone! The quaint historic feel of the apartments is absolutely charming too!! I LOVE living here, and will definitely be here for a long time. The location is awesome too!

I've lived here for nearly a year, and this is personally the best property management company I've ever worked with. Maintenance is prompt, Alita is incredible, and I've never had any issues with my apartment or with the building itself. It is a little on the older side, so temperature control in the winter/summer can be a challenge. That said, I tend to leave my windows open for fresh air, so this isn't an issue for me. I love the layout of my studio and that it has character. Walkability and accessibility in the plaza area is also a huge perk! The only downsides of living here: Parking is a huge pain (no on-site lot, side streets are always full, easy to be towed at 7 in the morning if you happen to forget on a weekday, difficult to get a spot in a nearby garage.) Street noise on the Roanoke side can also be obnoxious, as there are often both commuters and construction. Nothing to do with the building specifically, just something to get used to in the location. Major upsides: Spacious layouts, reasonable rent for the area, sunrooms, and LOTS of storage in each apartment! I'd happily rent from here again simply because I love my space so much.

I've lived in the Washington Irving for almost 2 years and have loved this building. My apartment is spacious and bright and has unique features like a closed in porch, higher ceilings and crown molding that add charm to the unit. The location is perfect and you don't get the noise that comes with living a few blocks east. Only complaint is parking, but anyone who lives on the plaza has the same issue.
