Overview

Library Lofts is a high-end apartment complex mixing old-world charm and modern convenience, right in the heart of Chicago's historic Printer's Row. Formerly the Brock & Rankin building, Library Lofts is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The majority of the building was constructed between 1883 and 1928 for Chicago’s burgeoning printing industry.
The exterior of the structure is red brick, and stunning terra cotta detailing. The interior spaces feature exposed concrete and masonry walls.
The lobby retains a historic metal stair, an original elevator enclosure, a polychrome mosaic floor of all original hardwood, and countless original books from the turn of the century.

Wanted it to be great..

I LOVED my actual unit. The appliances were amazing and loved the feel of the loft space. Yet everything external of the actual apartment unit isnt great. Facing the Metra the trains are loud and the noise is definitely noticable. They have also started construction in the lot next to the building adding to the noise. Its not a place if you have a dog. There is no dog run in the building and no green space within a block vicinity which makes letting my dog out a challenge. Security is questionable and there are a lot of homeless people who hang around the building. Parking is great but there is always a ton of trash and it smells of urine on the street. If you can overlook those things this is a great place to live.

Great but loud

The apartments are beautiful and extremely comfortable. The gym could use some updating but for a free, in-house gym, it does what it needs to do. If you are facing the Metra, the noise is OUT of control from very early in the morning to very late at night. If you work at home, it is extremely frustrating to hear constantly. I've heard that if you're facing the other direction, it is not as severe. Keep that in mind! Otherwise it has been a really pleasant experience living here and the staff is friendly and helpful. Maintenance requests are completed super timely.
