The Gatsby Apartments

I lived here for a year. This was my first time living in a downtown so it was a new experience completely coming from a suburban neighborhood. Mind you this is an old building, so it comes with its quirks but its also...old. Inside the complex, the neighbors are very kind. However, if you have an upstairs neighbor, good luck as you will hear every footstep and movement. The maintenance crew was very quick and on top of everything. The area is very diverse with people. However with the location, you're situated in front of a motel that has a lot of people coming in and out of that alley way. So, you will hear yelling in the middle of the night, police will roll through that alley way and the front will smell like dog pee. BUT, that's literally just down town living...because the pro's are you're minutes walking distance from the beach, festival grounds, incredible coffee shops and bars. If you're fit for living in the city - I think The Gatsby is cute and just that.

I love that groceries, a ton of restaurants, and the ocean are all walking distance. Parking is hard to find between 7-10pm, and you have to be careful about where you park overnight because street sweeping is every week in the early morning on Mo-Wed's depending on where your car is. The property manager and maintenance staff have been very nice and responsive in my experience. This studio apartment has been great to me for having a spacious bathroom, a bed that pushes into the wall for added space, a separate room for the kitchen which came with a fridge and you can't beat having a gas stove and oven. Laundry machines are in the basement which isn't a bad distance living on the first floor, but there are some characters in the neighborhood that have banged on my window because I am on the first floor and the windows face out into an alley. Overall, for a young person who's moved out on their own for the first time, it's a comfortable enough place with my only qualms being no designated parking and some scares by the transient population.
